I'm going to get a DS Lite shortly, hopefully the Zedla edition. I also own a GBA and a Virtual Boy -- it was a pass me on.

Have both.

DS does get a fair bit of play, especially the more open/casual games

At the moment I am mostly playing.

Brain Age 1 & 2, Vision Training, My French Coach, 42 All Time Classics (Clubhouse Games US) and Tetris

On my PSP, I am thinking of getting rid of it and getting a SLIM PSP with the 3.17 M33 Firmware, but this is just a want rather than a need as I barely touch the PSP as it is.

I can relate to all this too. Originally I thought the two screens was a complete gimmick (and still do to *some* extent), but it has proven to be quite good at a lot of things. Once the DS picked up a bit in software, I haven't played PSP much as it usually requires long sessions, sitting in the dark so that the glare on the screen doesn't make you think you've finally gone blind. :o If only the PSP screen was more matte, and brighter. I also got really sick of the fact that you can't name the videos you put on it.

Dagless
Dec 19, 2007, 09:58 PM
You still can't name PSP video files? Bloody hell, that was a qualm back in 2005! Thought they would have fixed that with a firmware update.

As a general comment I much prefer handhelds over consoles. Always have, even when my Amiga was the graphical powerhouse with all its art and even video suites - I wanted a GB. Don't even do much global travelling any more and I work at home! I'm a silly one :)

Such a sweet handheld though. Only used 2 AA's, they lasted forever (well, then again it didn't have a backlight :D). Very ergonomic shape, very light.

Nope, had a game gear though, and I once found an original Game Boy in a skip. Working and everything... Funny story about that actually...

I had a friend called 'Dan' he had been playing it, I got bored and was going to sell it to another friend called 'Dan'. As the first 'Dan' had been playing it 'Dan' was already a name in the console. 'Dan' number 2 came to buy it and I managed to convince a him it had finger print recognition.

I was only about 8, good stuff. :)

Ive always been big on handheld gaming. Having owned every version of the gameboy, I own quite a collection. My favourite games include Advance wars and Zelda: Links awakwning.

Right now im really loving the DS, especially castlevania. Games im looking forward to very soon are Advance wars, Contra4, Geometry wars DS, Bleach and Bangai-o spirits. Treasure are the masters of 2d.

My only gripe with DS right now, is the constant output of brain training games. What we really need is Monkey island, Day of the tentacle, Sam and max etc. on a single DS card. Its the perfect console for scumm games.

You can play Scumm with ScummVM DS, you just need one of those flash carts for homebrew...

I used to own a Game Gear but I never got into the Gameboys until the Advance... which I really loved but currently I only own a DS and I'm really wanting a PSP (mainly just for the remake of Rondo of Blood).

The DS is great, I've been spending so much time lately with Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin... and I haven't even fully finished them, co-op boss rush mode in PoR is a blast and these games really make you want to get 100% on them, plus both games are a blast for Castlevania fans with all the references here and there, it's just great. Can't wait for the new DS Castlevania.

I'm seriously considering getting a PSP JUST for Dracula X Chronicles.

As you can probably tell, I'm a sucker for Castlevania :o

Castlevania is so addictive haha. I was reading about an import of Dracula X chronicles, apparently its a bit of a let down. Cant really pass judgement until I play it of course.

I bought a DS right when it released, then bought a DS Lite right when that released. A GREAT system.

At first I stayed clear of the PSP because it didn't have any games that interested me at all. After a while I was kind of thinking about the PSP, then I saw that guided tour thing of the iPod touch, and immediately forgot about the PSP and went for the iPod touch. In my opinion, I have the best portable gaming machine and the best portable media machine out there. Why have a mediocre combination of both?

You mean this (http://scummvm.drunkencoders.com/). :) You'll just need to pick up the single DS card that holds the single micro-sd card. :o

I have it on my DS. I'm currently playing Monkey Island again.

I own and have played/beaten EVERY lucas Arts graphic adventure with the exception of Grim Fandango -- but I own it. I just haven't got to it since it would require me sitting at my PC. :)

I would buy an official DS release from Lucas Arts if they ever came back to their senses and stop vomiting out Star Wars cheese.

The only flaw with ScummVM DS... it can't play The Curse of Monkey Island which is a pretty good game.

But I agree, Lucas Arts should start releasing their adventure games of old, the humor and writing were excellent for most of their games.

That's not a flaw, that's a feature!

The Curse of Monkey Island was more eh than good. It made me laugh in a few areas, but it wasn't even remotely as good as its predecessors, nor was it a real sequel. But at least it wasn't atrocious like Escape from Monkey Island. The only travesty worse than MI3 and MI4, would be Philips misuse of Zelda.

Yeah I hated the graphic style initially and I didn't like what they did with Guybrush and the world of MI but still it wasn't that bad, the game was pretty funny at times and the animation was well done. It isn't as good as Monkey Island I and II but compared to other adventure games, CoMI is still a worthwhile game.

Yeah, it was better than the later vomit. :) I played it after having a Hernia Operation. The part where Guybrush is on the boat and his crew is admiring a whale, while the boat is being boarded, had me laughing in pain.

Fortunately I was working full time and out of high school when I picked mine up. What's the Dig like, is it funny like the Monkey Islands? I need to get round to playing through MI3 and MI4 again. Is there a game better than Monkey Island? I really wish they would get on with making MI5. They're not working on one yet but they've always said they will make another.

I thought the Micro was also released in limited quantaties, and that it was a "celebrationary" device for the roaring success of the GBA? Hense it being released around the same time as the DS. I think it's great myself. It's my main GBA system. Just drops into pockets like nobodies business

Thing about the GBA and their sequels is that each one has its benefits. They don't necessarily feel like successors, more like they're part of the big family. Unlike the PSP and DS whose remakes were much better than the originals.

YOu don't kNnow about the "The Dig!" Let me tell you. :)

The Dig -- ~i~ aaaaahhhhHhHhhHhhhhh. -- was Lucas Arts last great graphic adventure -- it came out prior to MI3 --- and IMO it's their best all around. The game is funny, has an excellent sound track, and it's story was great on so many levels. And the fact I went back for seconds really blew me away and says so much about this game.

Play MI3, but really, I mean really, don't play 4 -- it's AWFUL with its 3D vomit approach. The games not even a point and click adventure. They dumbed it down for the PS2 generation so got rid of mouse support. I got stuck in only one part of the game -- not because the puzzles were hard and clever, but because I couldn't position Guybrush to the exact spot at the exact angle to press an obvious button. Even after I looked for help, which told me to press this obvious button -- which I already new, because it was so freaking obvious, it still took me another half hour of excruciating movement to get Guybrush to exact coordinates. ANyway, F* Lucas Arts and Aspyr for this abomination! ANd F* them for Monkey Fu!!!

That looks *cool*!! The Dig that is. A graphic adventure that I haven't played yet? I know there are a lot of fan made ones but so many of them are crap. I'm really looking forward to Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth though.

I was scared off by MI3 at first because of the new direction the graphics went, however, I really enjoyed it when I played it. I remember enjoying MI4 too although I don't think I found it very hard and had it completed in a night.

Back on topic though, I've got a GameBoy Advance but the fact it didn't have a backlit screen really killed it for me. I always planned on getting one of those Afterburner things to give it a backlight but never got round to it. As such the only carts I bought were Super Metroid and Yoshi's Island. The second of which I'd played on the SNES before but enjoyed anyway, the first I heard was incredibly but just couldn't get into.

I'm going to try to find it for cheap over here. Looks awesome!! I've got too many games to play right now, about a third of the way through Mario Galaxy, need to finish Trauma Centre Second Opinion and have now got back into WoW again. :(
