I own at least 3 Power Macintosh 6100 computers with a PDS slot. I want to upgrade one of them to a PowerPC G3. Does anyone have a clue how to safely remove the IBM PowerPC 601 processor so that I can replace it with a compatible PowerPC G3 processor?

Your best bet is to look at a company like http://www.sonnettech.com and see if they have an upgrade path available for that type of PowerMac. More than likely you cannot just pop one PPC cpu out and put another in. They have different pin layouts or other interfaces that connect them to the motherboard.
