HI I have a new imac - always wanted one now have one but 2 months of use and Matshita drive started to keep disks last one it kept for 2 days before giving it back. now it spits out all disks as soon as i put them in - any ideas? Lots of stuff on internet about how bad these drives are and that your best buying an external drive as if its fixed it will die again.

I've not heard of any problems with them. DVD drives can and do go - I've had a Samsung and a Plextor die in the past in my old PC.
I'd contact Apple about getting it fixed. It's not a big deal to replace the superdrive.

I have spoken with Apple Shop in Solihull - they have refered the matter to a third party repair centre in Bromsgrove - who can't look at it now until after the New year - Cheers - guess i'm just unlucky with my new venture into the world of iMac's

Yep, I'm afraid so.
Components such as the disc drive, hard drive, memory and screen are just bought from other companies. You have the same chance of any of them dying whether you'd bought a £3000 monster PC or an Apple Mac.
