imac 20" freezes, beeps in series of 3s

hi! i searched the threads here about this problem - our new imac, 3 days old, randomly freezes, beeps in series of threes and blacks out. it restarts on its own and everything seems fine after that. except when it freezes again. it has happened at least once a day since we opened it and it's very worrying, especially being new and all.

we tried the suggested re-seating of the ram, didn't work. we also found in another forum that we should reinstall all software which we did. worked fine but after one night, it froze and beeped again.

HELP!!!

it's the holidays so the service centers here are close. :(

a friend of mine had a similar problem and he needed to update his firmware. he downloaded firmware firmware v1.2 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imacefifirmwareupdate12.html) and saved it to a CD then put the CD in the drive while holding the power button. the computer took it from there.

hopefully that works for you and maybe someone else has a suggestion.
