I know Jack's new album Sleep Through the Static is still more than a month away from release, but the first single - If I Had Eyes - is now available on iTunes and Amazon (cheaper and DRM-free). I love it. It's definitely Jack Johnson material, but it's new. I love hearing his style evolving over the years. I'll be buying the full album on CD when it comes out, but this song is worth buying twice, if only to bridge the gap.
There's also a short "making of (http://www.spinner.com/2007/12/21/jack-johnson-sleep-through-the-static-making-of-video-exc/)" for the new album that's worth taking a look at.
I went to his concert at Tokyo during his In Between Dreams tour... hopefully he'll be playing in the States this year - I can't miss it!
Something tells me he'll only play in Hawai'i and won't play in any other state...

Ah yes, Jack Johnson...very very good. Love the single....my friend turned me on to him a few years ago, and I have to say, he IS great!

Thanks for reminding me that Amazon is a contender, I didn't pre-order on iTS since it wasn't iTunes Plus. I plan to buy the CD, but any new Jack is worth it.
A coworker tried to introduce me to him before Brushfire Fairytales (they used to surf together), but I wouldn't listen. <sigh>.

Jack Johnson is the most boring overrated and predictable artist in the last few years. I don't understand how you can enjoy such stale music.

Safety through repetition. His genre is pretty much you know what you're going to get, and for chilling out and relaxing, his same stuff every time is pretty nice.

Just listened to the new song, sounds great! I am really looking forward to seeing Jack play at a local winery here in March. Thankfully I managed to get tickets, it's only a small venue and they were selling fast.

I've given him a chance, I used to like him some. But he just turned so mediocre and stale to me, I cringe at every song I hear by him.

balamw: I have to ask - does your coworker still keep in touch with Jack?
Sirus: Would you say the second album turned you off? I have heard that it is the weaker of his three.

Ah, I've heard them all... I thought he was okay, the whole Curious George thing didn't even bother me. But now, he's just so stale and boring sounding.

Jack has certainly found a formula for continuous success and its hard to fault him for following it, but his music certainly hasn't evolved at all. Whether thats good or bad depends on the listener.
Thats about all I can say in a public forum. :o

On iTunes right now. Listening through the songs to see if it's worth buying the album or just waiting...

Just got the vinyl today as an early Valentines day present from my girlfriend, as we both love Jack Johnson... and all I can say is it's great. Btw, the vinyl comes with a password to download all of the tracks as MP3s (at 192 kbps), which is pretty decent for "free."

On "Static" I think I only really like one track and sorta like two. At least that's all I liked well enough from the preview to buy off iTunes.
I like more tracks from his On and On album. Some of the playcounts on my old workhorse machine are up in the 70s, which is pretty high for me.

Just got the CD yesterday (with the fan pack... it's awesome). I gotta say, I don't know what the "critics" are talking about. There are some excellent beat tracks on here to offset the "dark and political" stuff... but please, Jack Johnson has always been about social commentary in addition to the love songs. All in all, I simply love this CD. No doubt it will be all I will be listening to for the next couple of weeks.

I agree. I love it after much time with it. I actually just wrote a 20 page song analysis on Good People and how it has to do with the media for one of my college classes. After I finished this paper I realized how great Jack Johnson is. I have to find his surf movies somewhere and watch those and see how creative he is.

this is definitely his worst effort yet. There are one or two songs that are just awful
but, i love JJ and there are some really good tracks too...but, this CD is below average for sure.

I just got it yesterday, and my first time through and I like it. So far not as much as "In Between Dreams", but I'll definitely have to give it more spins before I can officially say.
