Charging Issues!

I plugged my touch into my macbook and the battery came up and on the screen. so its charging. but i close my computer and it stopped....?

i have a wall charger, but i'm giving that to my mother because i'm giving her my "old" ipod -aluminum nano- and i'd hate to have to buy another one because they already jipped me on the case -$30 for a rubber case-
so what does the touch only charge while the computer is on?

Well of course it won't charge when your computer is off, iPods are great but they aren't magic. If the computer is off their is no electricity going to the USB ports.

my old... well "old" nano would continue to charge when the computer was closed. its not off, it's asleep.
