You can do it in imageready or there's loads of free gif specific programs on the net.

What exactly are you needing to do?

i found this cool gif that i really like, however, i want it to say my name instead of someone elses name. i can't figure out how to do it.
and its two large of a file to post here.:D

Adobe ImageReady would be your best bet in editing an animated GIF.

Personally I'd go for SWF, the animation looks much better and usually it's a way smaller plus animated GIFs are sooooo 1998.
