My Desktop erased itself

I logged on and everything that was on my desktop...folders.....applications....ect... is gone and i cant put anything on my desktop it just doesnt show up...for instance...i tried to make a new folder...it just didnt happen...when i tried to open an application...like textedit from my dock it just came up as a question mark..ive lost all of my writings and i dont know what to do please help me

Did you rename your Home folder?

Any TM/other backups? 😉

If you have another account on this computer, login to it and see if the same prob occurs.

Do you have FileVault (creepy thing) enabled?

Update Quickbooks? Errr.. there was some software update that nuked the desktop folder...
