Need a bit of insight I guess..
We are new Mac users (20" IMac, OSX 10.5.1) and my son has a new Spongebob game that is giving us fits!
The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie Game will just shut down unexpectedly and create an error message while in the middle of playing.
Has anyone seen this issue and have any thoughts?

Also while having music running last night, the box just shut down.
Strange.

From the code, I understand that this is a game designed for a PPC mac, and not for Intel Mac. However, it should still work fine.

There is an application named "Console". Run the game once, and let it crash. Open Console, locate the last entry of the system, and post it here. Hopefully, it will say something more useful than assembly language code.

I'm having the same problem

On a white intel iMac with Leopard. I've opened a ticket with Aspyr but no response yet (although it has only been a day).

Does anyone have any answers or work-arounds?

Just heard back from Aspyr

I just got the below reply from Aspyr. I'll give these a shot, but it strikes me as a boilerplate response.

Has anyone have this game working consitently on an Intel Mac with Leopard?

Hello, Donald. Thank you for contacting us.

The issue that you describe may be the result of an installation failure, a data error, a corruption in a saved game file, or a conflict on your hard drive.

First, check your Apple Software Update. Ordinarily, this occurs automatically (through a prompt you receive every so often), but it's important to check these often. Updates, including Quicktime updates (which can affect many games) are also available on Apple.com.

Try repairing your disk permissions (if you have not done so already). To do this, open up your hard drive, open the Applications folder, go to Utilities, and launch 'Disk Utility'. Under 'First Aid', select your main hard drive volume (usually labeled 'Macintosh HD') and hit 'Repair Disk Permissions'. Once this is complete, reboot your Mac.

If this fails to solve the problem, I would suggest fully reinstalling the game, and making certain all related files are removed to ensure a clean reinstall. Trash the main game folder, located on your hard drive. Check several other locations for files relating the game, and remove them. These include:

Home/Library/ApplicationSupport/SpongeBobMovie/

Note that 'Home' refers to your personal account folder, an icon that looks like a house and is labeled with your user name.

Once you are sure all of these files are removed and the Trash has been emptied, you may reinstall the game. I suggest placing it inside of the Applications folder on your Macintosh HD.

If after this, issues continue to occur, there may be something that you have on your system causing a specific conflict. At this point, I would suggest completely uninstalling the game again, and reinstalling once more, but this time, to a separate user account on your Mac. If you do not currently have one, you may create one through your System Preferences, under 'Accounts'. Make certain that the new account that you make has full permissions to administer the computer. Once it is created, reboot your Mac, log into this new account, and install the game there.

Please let us know if you have any further questions. Have a great day!

Thread 0: Crashed

Looks like it doesn't like the PPC calls for some reason. The translations are getting balled up, and it's crashing itself intentionally. I'd contact Aspyr Support with the dump report.

FYI, long bits of reports like that are more easily managed on forums using the "code" tags, as in [ code ] text [ /code ] (I added spaces there so it wouldn't actually embed the text).

here's the response from the ASPYR idiot...

Matt,

Please note, we cannot guarantee the full functionality of this software on Intel Macs, because it is an older title originally coded for PowerPC processors, and does not run natively on Intel machines. Full compatibility will require the use of a universal binary update, which this title currently does not have. That said, it may still run through the emulator built in to Intel Macs, Rosetta (which it launches through automatically), but performance may not be optimal.

The issue you describe may be the result of a bad installation, a data error, a problem with a saved game file, or a conflict on your hard drive.

First, try repairing your disk permissions (if you have not done so already).

Home > Library > Application Support > SpongeBobMovie

Note that 'Home' refers to your personal account folder, an icon that looks like a house and is labeled with your user name.

Once you are sure all of these files are removed and the Trash has been emptied, you may reinstall the game. I suggest placing it inside of the Applications folder on your Macintosh HD.

Finally, make sure you have downloaded all of your Apple Software Updates. Ordinarily, this occurs automatically (through a prompt you receive every so often), but it's important to check these often. Updates, including Quicktime updates (which can affect many games) are also available on Apple.com.

Have a nice day,
