Powerbook and Leopard problem

I just installed leopard onto my 17" powerbook G4 1.67ghz 1gb ram. after about twenty minutes i get the spinning beachball of death, i think it is because spotlight is indexing which is fine but then after a little while the black message that i need to restart my computer appears so it never finishes indexing. Please help.
here is the kernel report, i think that means something with my harddrive? how would installing leopard do that?

I agree it looks like the drive. What sort of installation did you do? They can be quite taxing on a hard drive so I wouldn't be totally surprised if this is the last straw for yours. Have you used Disk Utility to verify the drive? Also, make sure you back everything up! 🙂
 
i just did the upgrade from tiger. No i haven't verified it i'll see what that turns up
 
the disk utility said everything was fine but i downloaded SMART utility from apples website and it said it has errors and is failing. So i am going to take it into the apple store and see what they can do for me. Until then i found a workaround. Since i think it froze while spotlight was trying to index my harddrive and then froze when it got to a bad section i just put my whole harddrive under the privacy thing in spotlights system preferences and now it is not trying to index it and it has been running fine now. will work until i am able to take it in
