Per a MacMinute blurb... This Austin American-Statesman article reports that students entering the University of Texas teacher preparation programs are required to purchase an Apple laptop (iBook or PowerBook) running Mac OS X.
Of course, there's some criticism from some of the students, but Apple is apparently providing steep discounts for this program... specifics aren't clear as to which laptop is to be provided, but according to the guide at the bottom of the article, a laptop would be $2,500 retail and $1,000 for qualifying students.
This sort of aggressive push back into education is very welcome.
