The only thing I would suggest is to actually "restore" your phone through iTunes. That will reinstall the firmware and give you a factory fresh install.

well before i did a restore i would just go in and delete everything.
just uncheck all of your sync preferences and let it get zero'd out..

I know from my experiences with iPod's that there is always a certain amount taken up by the software for the device, its in the small print, but 2 gb seems a lot, but the iphone is a bit different to and iPod. hmm

The misc. data (the 2gb that you seem to be missing) is stuff that your iphone synced from the other computer you charged it on. I'm not sure how to remove it, but you might have to go back to that computer and unsync it (un check all the boxes (music, photos) etc.) and hit apply.
I know that the the iphone only syncs one computer at a time and since you lost all your data after you plugged it into another computer, I assume that the iphone erased all your data and synced it with the new computer.
I used synctunes and the music I synced from another computer comes up on the data bar as misc. data since it is from another computer.
I hope this helps.

That missing 2GB is just how hard drives never show you the exact amount you paid for.
Or at least 1GB may account for that, I know that my 8GB Phone only shows 7.1 Available after a restore. Youll never have truly 8GB.

Try restoring the phone and hit "set up as new phone" so that it is factory fresh. Your number will not be affected, and you can just re-transfer all of your contacts and music back to the phone.
The problem is a corruption in your firmware. Just do a simple restore (again), then restore from backup when prompted. If it is still there, restore again, then setup as new phone or just ignore the restore screen and redo everything manually, and sync.
The 'other' space on most non-hacked phones is less than 40MB (mine is 39.9 but that is including ringtones from iToner). The OS disc space is not displayed in iTunes.
