View Full Version : I Hope Apple Doesn't...

I really hope that Apple doesn't discontinue the Mac Mini! It's the only Mac that I can afford, and if they do discontinue it, then the next Mac in line is a MacBook, and i just don't have £699 to spare.
This will be my first Mac, and will be the decider as to wether I continue buying Mac's or just stick to plain old PC's.
To be honest, I can't really see why Apple would discontinue it. I mean it is the perfect Mac for first time buyers, like me, so why discontinue it?!?
I won't have the money until about March, so they best only update it or something at MacWorld!

Even if they discontinue it, I'm sure there will be plenty of Mac Minis around in March, probably for cheaper prices.

They make a tidy sum on every Mac Mini. The bill of parts is not expensive.

But the Mini cuts into their iMac sales, on which profit margins are much higher.

God, I'm getting sick of this.....first they cut the eMac and now they're cutting the Mini?? What the hell do they expect us to do now? Are we supposed to bite our tongues while they tell us how grateful we should be that we have the privilege to grace the Altar of the Mighty Mac even if we can no longer afford it because all they give a toss about is "profit margin?" This financial eliteism routine is really starting to get on my nerves, boy!:mad::mad:!!

No one know for sure if the Mini's going away. It might be. It might also get replaced by a new machine that isn't so "Mini" (hopefully a 3.5" drive or two, and dedicated video card).

It's all about business. Apple will do what they think is best for their bottom line. Personally, I don't see the Mini going away anytime soon without a suitable replacement.

I hope they don't discontinue it either. But they need to do something else with it. When it came out it was a really good deal, but now with the price raises it no longer is.
Its a great office machine, its a great space saver, and I also know a lot of composers using multiple machines as sample farms.

Calm down. Nothing has been announced. They could very well keep the Mini around. Wait until the 14th to see what happens.

Many possible switchers can steal a keyboard, a mouse and a monitor from their old PC, and buy a MacMini.
It's the right choice if you don't want to buy a more expensive iMac, or if you're not completely sure about your choice (after all, if you realize that you're not apple-minded, you can install windows on your macmini).
If the MacMini disappear, there will be less switches, IMO.
