Unfortunately, the car I could compare to this one, the Peugeot 207CC does not seem to be on sale in US$!! it costs £17000 in the UK. The Miata/MX-5 costs how much? US$21K?

The MX-5 may cost $21k, but they're about £17k up in the UK. So if the 207CC was sold in the states it might be around $21k. Of course it's front-wheel drive...

The new STS's are such a huge improvement engineering wise it would be hard to believe they were from the same company. The new cars have a solidity about them the old Cadillac's just don't have. Everything is well screwed together, materials are of high quality, and the trim pieces aren't of the lowest quality. On the other hand, I prefer the layout of my car to the new STS, the gauges look a lot nicer (digital), and seats are more comfortable. Material quality sucks, even when compared to my old Camry. The weatherstripping needs to be popped back in every 3-4 days, trim pieces are flimsy, etc. Regardless, I still love it to death.

Here are some pics of the interior:

I've never seen either car (newer Seville STS or an STS) in person, so I can't really say from experience, but looking at pics of your car there, it doesn't look bad at all, but that's just pics. In person can often be VERY different. I do love the gauges, too. Very nice looking.

And the comment about woodgrain in cars, I think it looks okay in some cars, but definitely not all.

It's all just preference, really.

It only costs $21000 in the US?

In North America, the Miata/MX-5 is considered a "girl's car", much like the (new) VW Beetle, VW Golf Cabriolet, and other cute cars. It's stupid, because the MX-5 is supposed to be a very nice car, and it doesn't look entirely effeminate. I just didn't realize how cheap they were in America.

Maybe I'll get one someday.

Damn, it costs around $28000 Canadian, which is a ripoff considering the American price.

Yeah, knew that. That's what you'd consider a Toyota Yaris or Hyundai Getz, no? I'm surprised the MX-5 now has a cool factor due to Top Gear. I'm sure that Americans are smirking a bit when it gets praised on the show.

I would have to say, minor is stuff like the radio, tire pressure monitor, and other extra gizmos. Stuff that does not give movement or safety to the car. Like our tire pressure monitor system has malfunctioned on both our Chevys. Chevy fixed them every time, that would count as a minor fix. I would say anything minor, would be something that broke. But you can still drive the vehicle and it is still a safe vehicle. Something major would be Engine, Transmission, or safety equipment. Something where if needed repair/replacement, that would other wise would make the vehicle useless or a danger.

One of 250?? Right!!

Between 2001 and 2003, Volkswagen produced 250 limited edition New Beetles, with the designation RSi, in Mexico for the rest of the World. The RSi was powered by a 225 hp 3.2 liter V6 engine, mated to a six-speed gearbox, and Volkswagen's four-wheel drive system 4motion. It had a Remus twin-pipe exhaust. The suspension was tuned by Porsche, featuring a severely altered rear suspension geometry more geared to the race track, and a rear cross brace behind the rear seats. Visually, the RSi differed in its 80 mm (3.1 in) wider fenders, unique front and rear bumpers, a rear diffuser, large rear wing, and 18x9 OZ Superturismo wheels with 235/40ZR-18 tyres. Inside, it was trimmed in carbon fiber, billet aluminum, and bright orange leather. The front seats were Recaro racing buckets. Notable disadvantages found were loud cabin noise and low rear tyre life. Curiously, in Mexico, although being a country very attached to Volkswagen, there are RSis that have not been sold since 2001. This is probably due to its US$58,000 price tag, and because Mexico is the country where most Beetle RSis stay (20 cars).

Old Volvos = not so safe. The newer ones from the mid 90's onward are MUCH better. Volvo currently makes some of the safest cars on the market. Now all of them are tanks in terms of breaking down, which they almost never do.

LOL no offense, but I smell delusion! :D

According to ebay, they're upwards of $20k new, & the insurance company I'm with wouldn't insure a teenager with one as they won't insure anyone under 25 with anything 2 doors & more than 2000cc, giving it a score of zero for both affordability & insurability IMO.

My first car (2 yrs ago when I was 15) was an '89 Civic, my current & 3rd car is a '99 Toyota Corolla (I'll try to get some pics).

That's funny, because when I was shopping for cars I got a pricing from Ford for the very same Mustang posted, only in black, that was less than $19,000. It's the V6 model with the Pony package, it's not the GT which starts around $25,000-$26,000. Plus I doubt eBay takes into consideration the kind of deals Ford is willing to throw out from their dealerships these days because of how awful they're doing. I could have walked away with a $22,485 car for under $19,000 out the door. And I probably could have gotten it even cheaper had I been interested enough, but the car just didn't do it for me.

Is car insurance just ridiculously cheap in the USA then?

It's weird to hear of these relatively young people picking up cars with V6 engines and not mentioning the insurance. For me to get insurance just as the additional driver on my brother's 2.5L MG ZS would be around £2000 ($4000) extra on his premium per year.

I currently pay about £700 for the insurance on my Smart Roadster and it's a 0.7L. Yeah, the car's form factor makes it much more expensive than others with similar engines but it's still very expensive.

Insurance here depends on about a billion or two factors. How old you are, male/female, single/married, where you live, your driving record, and of course the car itself. For me, my insurance is $2,000/yr on a 2008 VW GTI. I'm 22, male and single with an accident about 5 years back on record (basically the most expensive demographic when it comes to insurance, yay me).

Yeah, they dont even want to look at my car anymore, I tried to trade it in for a Trailblazer SS, and they wanted to give me like 1,000 for trade in, so I just left it alone.

But the difference between the two is seriously night and day, GM really stepped up everything a notch, the ride is noticeably quieter, smoother and a lot more powerful in the denli. As well as extremely comfortable. To bad it sucks gas (12/19) but not as bad at the yukon (10ish/15).

Yeah we got our '05 the last time GM did the employee discounts; Stickered for $51k, employee price dropped it down to $42k and put $8k down. Not a bad deal, and it's been the best truck we've had to date. Had an '99 Suburban SLT that had many little niggling issues, and needed a new tranny at 75k. Then had an '01 XL SLT that needed a new tranny at 36k (right outside warranty of course). The '05 has been the best by far, no problems at all besides a burned out high mount tail light (only has 47k miles). The most anybody will give her for the trade is $15k, and the truck is in excellent condition. She really wants an Escalade ESV (to match my Seville of course :D) but paying $60k for one after GMS is ridiculous. However, they are excellent trucks. Here's a pic of ours when we first bought it:

Just purchased this past saturday. 2008 335i Sedan. (.9% financing in the US right now as the 09's are out soon!)

Pretty much fully equipped. I think the only option I didn't get was the fold-down rear seats. I love the car though. My first step into german automobiles. I was waiting for the G37 sedan to come out at the end of the month, but after a test drive I was sold on this car. And that says a lot because I swore I would never buy a 3 series because pretty much everyone buys that car. Now I know why.

Yes to decide between the two. My gf wants the Convertible while I'm a coupe fan. Another factor is that the Convertible costs $9000 more
I'll rather go for a fully loaded 335i Coupe for about 55 grand. What's your experience of trade-in at BMW (if applicable) ?
I was also lured by the current 0.99 APR offering but then not sure if the 2009 models might be even better.... a bit confused.. I have just 17 days to decide :(

I love the coupe. But my wife likes the practicality of a sedan so I was able to compromise. :) Don't expect anything on the high end in trade-in value. I got about a grand less than the blue book trade-in value, but there were reasons for that.

There's no doubt the 09's are improvements, but you'll have a hard time getting lower than msrp and .9% interest so I chose saving a bunch of money over having the latest/greatest. Either way, you can't really go wrong. :) The car is a blast to drive.

i would say get the 335i BUT try to get a used one which is a year old or two..

there is nothing wrong with a used car, it doesn't have to be a brand new one..

like my mom bought a charger (1yr old, 11k miles) and just paid 20k (reg is ar. 30k)

i got my beamer for 43k fully loaded, 1year old.. saved me 12grand...

just for your info :) and with the 12grand u saved, you can get a nice pair of wheels, take your wife out for dinner and sleep in a hotel for some extra goodies :p

The 13B engine itself is very small and light, yes. But, when you add in the turbos, intercoolers, and all the ancillary items add up to quite a lot. Combine that with the fact that the LS1 uses lightweight materials for a lot of its components, and you get a fairly compact and lightweight V8 engine.

Had he put an LT1 in, then you would be spot on. But, the net gain of a normal LS1 swap in a RX7 is around 30-50lbs. Get a lightweight battery, and you're almost back to square-one. It isn't a perfect mod, for sure. But, it really is a lot easier and feasible than many think.

The logical part of me agrees with you .. but you know... :p
I like the new 335i a lot.. and frankly I am not a big fan of the old design. If I liked the old one I would have bought it as my first car.... I have been evaluating 3 options considering the fact that I might be able to get a convertible:-

Fully loaded 328i Convertible for about $53k
Fully loaded 335i Convertible for about $57k
Fully loaded 335i Convertible for about $52k

Hopefully all the above options for 0.99 APR. Now it's time to talk with the dealer... I am also considering the 2009 models which have a better iDrive and headlamps too seem to be better...

Spot On !! That was just a placeholder option :D
I drove the 335i Coupe last evening and it was pure thrill. No engine noise either.
Although I love the convertible I am very fussy about damage/wear-n-tear to the interiors form exposure to the sun, dust etc.. Yeah one might ask then why on earth I care about a convertible.. :p
Ahh.. it looks awesome.. and its a class of its own ! But then if I won't use it 90% of the times, what's the point of paying an additional 7-9 grand on it. Again the convertible with the top down doesn't look as sexy/curvy as the Coupe :p This is the decision I got to make...

My guess is you have no idea what you are talking about. The all aluminum LS1 weighs very close to the iron-blocked rotary motor, minus turbos, intercooler, etc. The weight balance is actually closer to 50/50 because the LS1s weight is concentrated further back towards the firewall. Put simply, 400rwhp in a 2700lb with 50/50 weight distribution = a wicked awesome track beast. :D

Here is a weight comparison of a Stock RX7 and an LS1 RX7, both cars with the same interior options.

That's why I said MY GUESS. I never said I knew exactly what I was talking about. Just an educated guess based on comparing a 1.3l rotary to a 5.7l v8. If they are that close in weight, I'm surprised and find it very interesting. No need to get defensive about it.

Don't get the 328i. The 3.0l i6 twin turbo is a big part of what makes the car so great. :p Non-convertible 335i > convertible 328i.

I went to Carmax today to get my 2008 Honda Accord EX-L Coupe (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/840369144.html) appraised.
They gave me a sucky $20,500 wholesale value quote.:eek:

It's almost a brand new car with just 5000 miles on it. I had paid approx $30,000 for it out-of-door... I am planning to get a 335i Coupe/Convertible. Yet to try the dealer for a trade-in.. no responses from Craigslist post yet
I am not sure if the dealer (BMW/Honda from where I bought this car) would offer me more than Carmax.
Any suggestions ?

how much money did you put in the car? 10grand?

va has stupid laws, if they catch you drag racing they will impound your car

How is that stupid? I'm glad such an agressive stance is being taken. I'm a 21 year old male with what will be a decently quick car who lives in VA and i'm glad something is being done. Between idiotic drunk teenagers, elderly people who shouldnt be at the wheel, to just freak accidents, there are enough dangers of the road as it is.

Keep it on the track. If there isn't one close by/you cant afford it, find a new hobby.

Woah i forgot about this thread!
Welll as much as i love my beautiful Audi and the feeling of driving a car, i need more of a utility vehicle and just miss sitting up high and kinda feeling like "The Boss".
And when it comes to me, style beats my wallet and sometimes thats not a good thing but in this case, say hello to my new 2007 Cadillac Escalade ESV!

I'm so glad it hasn't made its way to the UK in a big way. I don't know why all of these Americans are willing to pay over the odds for a car which is gonna roll over with any sort of strong cornering. I wouldn't feel safe in one.

The funny thing is that as far as I can see you don't get much extra from them. It's just like the whole car is raised a big off the standard height of a car, but no doubt the interior space is about the same as any normal family saloon.

And most importantly though, they look ugly - every single one of them.

and you'd be right. My mom owns a 2002 chevy tahoe which is basically an escalade, sans the luxury, and it is a terrible car. The rear seats aren't that spacious and the storage in the back is barley more than any other kind of hatchback or mid-sized suv. The car drives like a boat and feels like a tank. My sister's lexus rx350 has more front and rear leg space and equal rear storage as the tahoe. I think the escalades look kinda nice, but it's really not worth the price of the car or the fuel costs imo. But like i said, if that guy likes teh car and can afford it i think that's a good car for him

Incorrect, actually.

Yes, the Escalade ESV is just a flashy version of the Suburban. And the regular Escalade is just a Tahoe. We all know that. But, he was saying that all the Element was is just a buffed up Civic. Of which it has very little in common with, aside from engine family, some transmission pieces and some chassis stuff. Its more of a CR-V than a Civic, if you get right down to it. Yet, to him, its just a big Civic.

Thus my point that the Escalade ESV (and Tahoe, Suburban, normal Escalade, Yukon, Yukon XL and Hummer H2) is just a Silverado pickup all blinged up. They are all based on GM's GMT900 chassis platform, and share ALMOST EVERYTHING from engines to transmissions to suspensions. Hell, they even share most of the dash and many other interior parts. Aside from body panels, they are all the same. If someone showed you a picture from underneath one of these trucks, you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart. But, show me the under-side of a Civic and an Element, and I'll can easily tell them apart.

So, you are correct from a simple comparison standpoint. The Escalade is just a Tahoe/Suburban with a spray on tan and some gold chains. But, with regards to what he was referencing (the underpinnings of the vehicle), my example is much more to the point. And didn't need fixing.

The future of automobiles isn't tiny vehicles, some of us carry 6-7 people routinely in our vehicles- and we also drive quite often in snowy, precarious situations... A clean car doesn't always mean a small car- hydrogen fuel-cells for instance we recently implemented in a BMW 7 series, and those are very large, powerful vehicles. It'd be driving a cleaner SUV if I could afford one... but the small ones aren't practical and the large hyrbrids are really just smoke and mirrors- and cost 55 grand to boot. If I drove around town all day alone... I could see someone not being okay with 14mpg... but in my situation, I can completely justify it.

Don't worry about it, I am not criticizing you. I have a Disco myself. Both my parents have SUV's. My sister has an SUV too. On average our cars get about 16mpg. That said my dad's company takes more pollutants out of the air in a week than 99% of people will do in their lifetime.

IF you're driving 6-7 people around regularly, you should get a suburban. The Discovery 3rd row is soooo cramped and hard to get in and out of.

Everybody should know that the Cadillac badge on the Escalade adds $20k to the price over a similarly equipped Suburban and about $10k over the just as nice Yukon Denali. Even though, the Escalade is a hot ass truck.

I'd never buy any Cadillac new; the value plummets to quick. Let somebody else take the $5-10k deprecation in the first year. Or, wait 8 years and buy a super clean Seville STS for $10k w/54k miles. That's what I did! :D

The interior is more comfortable, more room, available V8, better ride, etc. The CTS is the real looker though; not a bad angle on the thing. I didn't think I would like the new Charger until I was at he unveiling of it in Chicago last winter. Nice car inside and out, however I wish the seat bolsters were tighter. It is like they were designed for larger people (I am 6' 180). They act like half pipes and almost make me slide up and out of them on hard corners :( . I guess a set of RECARO seats could help with that though.

I like them in darker colors. Nice ride!

That is a Challenger R/T, not the SRT-8. So, you're about 50hp high. Not that 370hp is a little amount. But, as you said, combined with the 4,100lb+ curb weight, a 4-cyl Honda S2000 will give one a good run for its money.

I really do like the look of the Challenger though. Both it, and the new Camaro, are a couple of great throwbacks to the 60-70s, and have lots of character. I just think, with the current gas situation in this country, and the rest of the world, they are about 5-10 years late on really capitalizing on this.

If there would have been an old-school Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger back in the early '00s, they would have sold TONS of them. But now, I'm not sure how many people REALLY want to have a V8 sports car that gets realistic mileage in the teens.

I can still run 87 octane and get 25 MPG on the freeway which I think is pretty good. I test drove the SRT8 and would have bought it if they had agreed to my price which hey were not willing to do. Not to mention it requires premium gas gets only 13/18 MPG and has a $2100 gas guzzler tax. :(

But, if you drive in so much stop-and-go traffic in L.A. that you don't want to drive a manual transmission any more, how often are you driving on the freeway?

Don't get me wrong, getting 25mpg in a car that size, with an engine that size, is possible. I just don't think people buy cars like that for the gas mileage. Hell, you could probably stretch it to almost 30mpg by driving very carefully. But, at that point, why have a muscle car?

Also, I don't think "25mpg" and "pretty good" should realistically be used in the same sentence, EVER.

I guess it is all how you interpret/view things. To me 25MPG is pretty good. Whether or not I will personally see that remains to be seen. As you stated why have a muscle car? I am fortunate enough to have a job that allows me a decent wage where the price of gas does not kill me and am much happier driving this than I would be driving say a Prius (and I mean no offense to any Prius owners).

I wasn't questioning the ownership of a muscle car. I used to drive an Eagle Talon that could run 11.2s in the 1/4, so muscle is all good by me. I was just questioning the mention of its mileage as a selling point.

Yes, in ideal conditions, and driven very mildly, you can probably get 25mpg with a V8 Challenger. But to me, that is basically the same as someone who drives a Prius saying they can go 110mph. It can do it, but it's hardly what the car was built for.

Again, I really like the car. I have nothing bad to say about it. I just think mentioning the mileage, no matter how good or bad you personally think it is, is missing the point of the car. You gotta just own up to it. You bought a muscle car. Be proud of the fact that it will get like 10mpg when driven the way it was intended. ;)

I am referring to JBazz with an 07 Jaguar XK8 Gold. I would rather own and drive an Aston Martin then this Jag, the Aostin Martin V8 Vantage MSRP is $113,400 (US) (Convertible or Coupe). I would gladly buy one of these used, so I can ride in an Aston Martin.

Edit: JBazz no offense, your car is very nice and allot nicer then mine. But why a Jag?

Evo faster? Pah! Take a look at the Top Gear power board. The new Evo X was 1:28.22, the STI was 1:28:2. Not much of a difference, but the STI was faster nevertheless. Not only that, but it costs a lot more than the STI.

Because I have always loved the long lean form of Jaguars. It is my daily driver. An Aston Martin is out of my price range to begin with, but even if it had the same price tag as my XK there would still be issues with reliability, servicing, insurance and parts.

IMHO, Astons arent exactly daily drivers unless you live a very privileged life style (parking garages at work, et al).

You should be able to get better millage out of that Cummins. You should look into Banks Power Package or other Diesel power packages. Also should look into Propane injection, lots of extra milage to be gained. Also most importantly power!

Oh yeah, it's got better leather, better sound and the guys at ih8mud say it came with pink panties.:D

It's also got the factory lockers and the previous owner replaced the softer Lexus springs with LC springs for a tighter ride. I need to lose the grill guard on it but I just got it last week so hopefully in due time...

You could probably have saved a bit of money just buying the LC.

The Lexus and the LC are both priced very similar these days, many times the Lexus is cheaper because not many realize it's a LC. I got a great deal on it and couldn't be happier with it so far. I know it's gonna take some upkeep, but I plan on keeping it for the long haul...

My mum owns this car, though it is a 1998 model (1.8t). I found it is pretty low on power with a big flat spot in the middle of it's RPM range, although I don't notice any turbo lag; it seems pretty linear.

Is yours 230hp atw? That seems pretty high compared to the stock figure of 148hp. What mods have you done?
