perian won't be deleted

So i followed the directions to delete Perian from my computer. It's in the trash. But when i empty it, it says, "operation cannot be completed because the item Perian is in use" and there's no application open. can anyone help me? if it helps i'm using a mb w/ 10.5.1
 
I won't promise but I think you can get rid of it if you "secure empty trash" in Finder ... If I'm wrong .... sorry ..... 😱
 
strange i downloaded loaded it awhile ago now but had to re-install it worked for
me but i think i had to secure empty trash

i've been a mac user since i ever started with computers and i've never heard of "secure empty trash".
