Does anyone have any experience using disk copy to create an image of a system drive in OS X?
I was wondering how effective this would be for creating dupe of my stuff so that I can migrate my stuff onto a new Mac that I am buying.

Use Carbon Copy Cloner--you can clone directly to another partition/drive or make an image and then clone that to the drive you want it on later. Hasn't failed for me yet.
I have used Disk Copy to successfully dupllicate CDs, even Windows install discs, but I had to do a "device copy" (which copies everything at a low level), then burn the resulting image to a CDR.
Whether this would work with an OSX HD or not, I'm not sure, but my offhand guess would be no.

Thanks for the tip!
I am cloning right now - looks like a cool app.

I wouldn't even bother with Disc Copy. Just grab a Firewire cable and use target disc mode (hold the "T" key while booting up either one of the machines, while the other one is on). It turns the Mac into a Firewire HD, so you could go ahead and copy everything on your hard drive.
BTW, in Panther (at least in the first beta from WWDC) Disc Copy is no longer an application. Its functions are built into other apps (like Finder).
