Mac OS X files. Also take note that actual HD space is always slightly less than as advertised.

yeah i know that you get less space than advertised, but i'm missing drive space that i used to have, i'm guessing its an imovie project that i'm just not finding... i dont know what else could eat that much space....

Try using an app like WhatSize, OmniDiskSweeper, or Disk Inventory X to look for a large temp or log file.

Download an app called Whatsize, that'll show you what is taking up all the space.

You are unclear on the source of your problem, but I'll take a wild guess...
You have a "250Gb" harddrive, and you wonder why the drive says "232Gb"?
If not, did 20gb of space disappeared overnight?

Install WhatSize. It will tell you exactly what's taking up the space.

actually i have an 80gb drive, and i'm only seeing 32gb i'm figuring i should have in the 50gb range of usable space, i did do a few imovie projects, but i have deleted them.
it didn't disappear over night, but i wasn't really paying attention to drive space, but i know about 4 months a go i had 52-54gb free, and now i only have 32, not the end of the world, but would like to find what is eating the space....

i just found the offending files,
disk inventory x worked really well, it mapped out the drive and it was real easy to find the large files

I Love forums and search engines. Thanks to this thread and disk inventory, I found 80GB of hidden backups to delete. Hooray!:D
