delete applications

hi all, best wishes for the new year.

one short q because i'm completely unfamiliar with OS X. i switched

3 months ago.

i want to delete several applications that i never use such as garage band,

idvd, ical etc in order to make some space in my mb. i want to install

a linux distribution and i have not much space.

could you please tell me how i can erase/delete completely an application ?

Drag the application into the trash, empty trash. The "application" you see may actually be a package contaning many files, but all of them will go. There's no registry to deal with, and Mac apps rarely have stuff thrown all over the disk willy-nilly.

There's going to be some .plists (preference files) left in your User/Library directory, but they're just a few kb. Not to worry.

Not GarageBand and iDVD. All the loops and themes are not part of the application bundles: they are in /Library/Application Support and can take up a number of Gb.
 
To save space on my computer, I ended up reinstalling OS X and choosing not to make Garageband and some of the printer drivers part of the install.

If that's not an option for you, I recommend AppZapper. You use it to delete applications, and it will find all the files scattered about your HD that are related to that program. For programs like Garageband, those files can be rather large.

You can also save some space by using Monolingual. You can choose the languages that you will never use, and it will erase those, saving you a few hundred MBs.
 
There's an handy application called Appzapper that'll remove and uninstall any application in it's entirety without too much messing about with folders.

If your uninstalling the odd application then download the demo. You'll get to delete upto five appz, after which you'll need to buy.
 
Yes, i use appzapper and it works great.

One great thing about leopard, is you can drop items directly into the dock icom in this case, you drag the item you want to delete into the appzapper icon in your dock, and it does it.

Its super easy, terrific!
