Well I got my iPod Touch yesterday. I am completely new to hacking. I got alot of questions. Why should I hack my iPod Touch? Does anyone have any step by step ways to hack it? Some things I wanna do with my iPod is to maybe add some games and other apps, and to change the background/wallpaper image of it instead of it being straight up black. Also what happens if I mess up halfway hacking? Does my iPod break?

you cant brick your ipod, you may have to restore it at most. hacking it is surprisingly easy, depending on your firmware it can be super easy. i suggest looking up guides on youtube. ipodtouchmaster and dommo92 have been really helpful to me. just search how to jailbreak ipod touch (insert firmware).
http://youtube.com/watch?v=nLjab_dmWCg for version 1.1.1
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wLFiUCq7IHc how to downgrade TO 1.1.1 (then use video above) use this for 1.1.2
go to the settings and then go to general then about it will say your firmware

Jailbreakme.com only works on version 1.1.1, and no one has come out with an exploit to directly jailbreak 1.1.2, but someone did make the Oktoprep package to allow an already jailbreaked ipod to be updated. When you update, it will un-jailbreak it temporarily, but in the instructions it shows you how to re-jailbreak it. Just make sure you installed the oktoprep package before updating to 1.1.2 and you'll be fine :)

I followed this guide:

Worked fast and easy. Whatever that video said seems way more complicated.

No, if you watch the second video on the first post you'll see that downgrading to v 1.1.1 you'll NOT lose your songs and videos

do not depend on all your stuff being ok.
back up your touch than try jailbreaking.
it may be ok and your stuff will be there but if it locks up and you need to restore you will lose everything.
plan for the worst and hope for the best.
