Anyone feel like opening up a bit? :D
I was just curious as to whether there's a song that generally wells you up a little bit for whatever reason.
For me, it would probably have to be Fix You by Coldplay ... I guess I'll always associate it with a friend I once knew.

When I was a little less mentally stable The Unnamed Feeling - Metallica
Specifically:
"Get the ****** out of here,
I just wanna get the ****** away from me,
I rage, I glaze, I hurt, I hate.
I hate it all. Why, why, why me,
I cannot sleep with a head like this,
I wanna cry, I wanna scream
I rage, I glaze, I hurt, I hate
I wanna hate it all away."
At that point in time that's pretty much what I thought every morning.

When "You're" Around - Motion City Soundtrack (At least at this current time)
"Midwest love affair
I bend when I am bored
Late night liquor blue
Will lead me to the floor.
Can we fake it?
Can we make believe?
I'm so full of love
It deeply sickens me.
But all I could do was close my eyes
And cross my arms and hope to die
Cause you don't f--king listen
When I'm around.
The least you could do is take it back
All the vicious remarks and verbal attacks
Cause I can't f--king stand it.
When You're Around.
Midwest aftermath, the rumors start to rise
Did I truly do the things that you've described?
They must hate me, every single one
It just sickens them, what I consider fun.
But all I could do was close my eyes
And cross my arms and hope to die
Cause you don't f--king listen
When I'm around.
The least you could do is take it back
All the vicious remarks and verbal attacks,
Cause I can't f--king stand it.
When You're Around.
But all I could do was close my eyes
And cross my arms and hope to die
Cause you don't f--king listen
When I'm around.
The least you could do is take it back
All the vicious remarks and verbal attacks
Cause I can't f--king stand it.
When You're Around.
No I can't f--king stand it, when you're around.
No I can't f--king stand it, when you're around."
Hello Helicopter - Motion City Soundtrack
"Hello helicopter, are you here to stay?
Bodies rest in motion, fighting night and day
Well it's kill or be killed
And one day we'll get the best of them
Hello helicopter, will you be my friend?
Will you take me away?
Hello helicopter, have you heard the news?
No one gives a ****** about the things they do
We all waste and consume, destroy and ruin everything we touch
It's easy not to think when you're not told that much
I'm not saying anything you haven't heard before
I'm just trying to understand the way we are
Hello helicopter, are you lost out there?
Swimming through the garbage dump that fills the air
In several more years no one will care
They'll be rich and dead
So let somebody else devise a cure for it
I'm not saying anything you haven't heard before
I'm just trying to understand the way we are
Nobody seems to care
Nobody ever learns
Hello helicopter, are you here to stay?
Bodies rust in motion, fighting night and day
Well it's kill or be killed
And one day we'll get the best of them
Hello helicopter, are you listening?
Nobody seems to care
Nobody ever learns
Are we ever going to get it right?
Are we ever going to start making sense
And stop pretending that we care?
Are we ever going to get it right?
Are we ever going to start making sense
And stop pretending that we care?
Are we ever going to get it right?
Are we ever going to start making sense
And stop pretending...
Hello helicopter, are you here to stay?
Bodies rust in motion, fighting night and day
Well it's kill or be killed
And one day we'll get the best of them
Hello helicopter, are you listening?"

Amen!
My current tear-jerker is Symphony No. 3 by Henryk Górecki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_No._3_%28Górecki%29). The whole piece is wonderful, but the second movement, Lento e largo-Tranquillissimo, really gets me emotional. I guess this is just part of the wonderful composition of the music itself as well as the subject matter (http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~felluga/goreckilyrics.html).

Nessun Dorma ("None Shall Sleep"), an aria from the opera Turandot.
A performance by Luciano Pavarotti actually hit the pop charts for awhile in the UK after the BBC used it as the theme for its coverage of the FIFA World Cup in Italy in 1990.
Soccer and opera, of course they go together! In both, usually someone wins and almost always someone weeps...

Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright.
(You know, the one from Shrek).
With due respect to rufus wainwright, that's not wainwright's song. Rufus's version is an almost exact copy of the version of that song done by Jeff Buckley. (The song wasn't written by Buckley either, but he totally created the Rufus version of the song that you're familiar with, which is radically different than the original that Buckley covered.)
Listen to Jeff Buckley's version here, you'll see that it's almost EXACTLY the same as the version that Wainwright did. Scroll down to the middle of the page to see the songs, and click to hear the sample of track 6. Hallelujah.

Good call on giving Buckley the credit for that. He was so talented, and completely transformed that Leonard Cohen song.

Wow man, I've heard Leonard Cohen's version before, but every time I hear it I get reminded of just how awesome Jeff Buckley was. It amazes me that he was able to hear Leonard Cohen's very boring and uninteresting sounding song (imo) and Buckley was able to find the beautifully haunting romantic version of the song lurking within it. He was a true artistic talent.

Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright.
(You know, the one from Shrek).
This one doesn't make me teary, but it does affect me for a while after I hear it - which is uncommon for music to do.
I would say Never An Absolution from the Titanic soundtrack. THAT is a song I literally cannot listen to but once a year because it's so beautifully, hauntingly depressing. And I didn't even like the movie that much, either..

The song that always makes me cry is "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate" by the Flamaing Lips.
Love in our life is just too valuable
Oh, to feel for even a second without it
But life without death is just impossible
Oh, to realize something is ending within us
Feeling yourself disintegrate
Feeling yourself disintegrate
I feel that it is so poignant on so many levels...love, death, heartache. Plus the music is so beautiful, it would probably make me cry even without the touching lyrics.
Such a tearjerker! :(

Beethoven: Symphony #5 (1975 recording, Carlos Kleiber, VPO)..
I was able to attend a 7th symphony special last winter - it's a beautiful piece of music, but to hear it live, and pick up the energy from the orchestra is breathtaking.
It's even more amazing to consider that he composed his most beautiful pieces of music after he had gone deaf..

from classical music it is definitely the aria from Tosca "E lucevan le stelle" by Puccini. I think that is by far the saddest song I have ever heard. And the singer that does it best on my opinion and brings the tears is an American singer Christian Anzalone

Time to Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli feat. Sarah Brightman.
The instrumental seems to be just as powerful, maybe becauce mentally I can overlay the words.
Anyway, my song that brings said tear to the eye is Fairytale of NewYork. Although classed as a Christmas song it brings together a number different emotions to me.
Superb lyrics, sadness how Kirsty McColl was killed and the downward spiral that Shane McCowan seems to be drinking himself into.
