I need to connect to my website to transfer files, so I need a good simple FTP program. I have connected via OS X but becuase I doesnt ask me for username and password, it logs in as a guest and I have limited control. I am simply looking for something that transfers files to certain folders on the web. Any ideas for good programs or making OS X log in w/ username & password?

I've used this program and it works well for me, and it's free.
RBrowserLite (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13994)

I use that app too, works reasonably well, especially considering it's price ;) I've heard that some people use it instead of the Finder...

i have used rbrowserlite and was very pleased with it. especially for a free program. definitely go for it. and if you don't like it, all you have lost is the download time.

I think unless it requires a password, it'll only do anonymous. Honestly, the finder SUCKS as an FTP client. Use something real, Rbroswer light being one of the alternatives mentioned.

Okok. The Finder is not a decent ftp client as its writing ability is a bit lacking (does it even exist?). The BEST ftp client by far for my has been Panic Software (http://panic.com)'s Transmit (http://panic.com/transmit/). Check it out.

I've used Transmit and I agree it's a very good program. Its only drawback is that it costs $24.95. However if you just need a FTP program for a short time, then try this one for the 30 day trial.

Transimt is worth buying though.. I actually paid for it and its a cold day when I pay for software (not that im into piracy, i just use open source/free apps to get the job done)...

Don't use FTP. Don't even enable it on your server. FTP is a gaping security hole. It transmits your username and password in cleartext. Anybody with a sniffer can steal your login and use it do anything you have access to do on the server.
Instead, use SCP (secure copy). It only requires that you have SSH login enabled on the server. I'm not sure which of the FTP clients on the mac allow the use of SCP, but there's always the command-line SCP client built into the OS.

As stated by previous posters, Transmit is really the top dog in terms of FTP on OS X.
Granted it costs $25, but if you're gonna do a lot of ftp, I strongly suggest you at least try it. I tried it, loved it and purchased my first (and only) shareware licence ever...
