another handycam issue!

I'm new to the mac world and about to go back...arrgh. Plug and pray i guess!

i have read all the handycam posts and none address my issue.

I have a sony dcr dvd405 which has usb 2.0only, no firewire.

When I plug it in, my mac dvd player opens but I cant get imovie to recognize it. So what I am trying to do is import the movie to edit it.

I have read all the workarounds but am hoping that somebody knows the one little thing i am missing.

Any thoughts?
