Hello all,

I am thinking about buying an Apple TV and I would like to make it so I can take the plugins from perian and use them on the Apple TV. I have been read A LOT and it seems with all of these hacks you have to install a full blown copy of os x on your Apple TV. I also read a guide where you could SSH into your Apple TV but you have to open it up and all that. I basically want to be able to play most common formats on my Apple TV with out opening it.

Thanks for the help,
Michael

Opening up your :apple:tv has been unnecessary for several months now. I hacked mine via the patchstick method, by following the step-by-step Beginner's Guide at the AwkwardTV wiki. Requires the 1.0 firmware... many of the hacks will not work on a factory 1.1 box.

I would post the link, but I'm at work, and hacking sites are blocked.

The full version of Mac OSX is not required for Perian.

Have fun reading (http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Main_Page).

Depending on what happens tomorrow in the way of product announcements, I may do the same to my AppleTV. Thanks for the resources.
