View Full Version : What did you do with your iMac box?
Hello.there
Jan 9, 2008, 03:57 PM
Well? Did you dump it, stick it under the bed (actually, it won't fit under mine), stick it on top of the wardrobe, what? I think the iMac box is such a thing of beauty (I know, I know...sad) that I'm really reluctant to throw it out...but what am I meant to do with it? Apart from trip over it every day because I still have it on my office floor.

I'm keeping it for the day I sell it. Just sold my old G4 Quicksilver machine, and I wish I still had the box. Much easier for shipping.

i still have mine. i'm a student and have to drive back and forth 300 miles every few months. so moving an iMac without damaging it would be hard without the original box and packaging.

Always, always keep the box - not only is it really useful to use in the instance of a send away repair but I've found it adds real £'s to eBay bids !!! ;)

After one week of use to make sure the iMac had no issues I flattened it and stuffed it in the recycling bins at the end of the street (the box, not the iMac haha). Our apartment simply isn't big enough to keep packaging.

Mines in the attic. I always keep the boxes for resale purposes. Nothing worse than looking for a box to fit when you want to ship it!

Do you have an attice? Maybe a couple feet of crawl space under your house? Wrap in it a garbage bag and toss it down there.

I say the same things about all of my Apple Stuff. I really don't keep any other boxes, but the Apple boxes are hard to part with and I always feel like I might need it one day...I have several Apple TV boxes, iPhone, iMac, Powerbook G4 (which I absolutely don't need anymore, but I can't throw it out), Bluetooth Headset, a bunch of accessories over the years, and bunch of software boxes (but those are necessary to keep).

Come to think of it, why on earth have I kept all my other :apple: boxes ?, I just realised I've still got keyboard, mouse and airport express boxes at the back of my study cupboard - even now I'm not sure I really want to throw them out..................hmmm strange
Ha ha..........just found an Apple Store carrier bag - saw one of those on eBay once too !!!!!

Mine's in the garage, I actually had to use it once or twice to move my iMac for a few trips, so I'm glad I kept it. Plus, it's just so nicely designed (my iMac was my first :apple: product, I was giddy at how well the package was built) that I can't dare throw it away.
In fact, I even kept the brown shipping box to kind of... well, protect the iMac box.

I still have my iMac G3 box from 2001. It's in the garage.
And my MacBook Pro box is in my room because I don't know where to put it, and also I'm lazy.
And you never know when a box can come in handy! Especially when you're trying to get to the elevator in the back. You can use it to hide in so the guards think you're an iMac...
"Huh? What's that box?"

Yeah it is, we had a huge debate over whether folks would want an iMac or a Macbook and this was the solution. Here's your card, go pick something out.

The card is a good idea. Gives them the option of forking over a little extra and getting something more, like a MBP or something.
I want to work for your company...

Definitely kept mine. I've been surprised when selling items on Trademe (NZ equivalent of Ebay) how having the original packaging seems to fetch better prices for things.....besides, apple packaging is some of the nicest around.
I tend to keep boxes for all my Hifi and computer equipment. I certainly don't fancy trying to transport a 24inch iMac without a little damage, missing the original box.
Cheers

Mine went under the bed, but got a lot of use as I took it to and from university maybe 2 - 4 times a month on the train!
Eventually (and understandably) I had to get a MacBook instead in year 2 :(
I keep all my boxes: keyboards, displays, consoles... good as at one point or another I end up selling them

Mines hidden in plain sight under the dining table. My iPhone box is in my desk drawer and my MacBook box is in the unused wardrobe. I tend to keep boxes in case I need to resell in future. It also ensures I can easily find manuals and resource disks as and when needed

I kept mine, it sits in the same spot where the Power Mac box used to reside.
Sold the Power Mac to buy the new 24" iMac.
In fact I now have more space because I got rid of the Power Mac box and the 23" LCD Monitor Box and replaced it with the 24" iMac box.
I even got more space on my desk now as well !!! :D :D

I still have my PowerMac 8600 box from 1997! And the the boxes for my 2002 eMac, 2004 iBook, and 2005 MacBook. I never throw my computer boxes away because that is the best way to transport the machine when you move. If I use a commercial mover, then my computers go IN the car with me, on the back seat, in the box. If I use a rented Ryder truck where I supervised the packing, my computer is safest if it is nestled in the original packaging. After all, that's the way that Apple shipped it when I bought and I've never received a damaged Mac in 17 years.
The only reason that I don't have the boxes for my 1990 LC II, 1994 Performa, and 2000 iMac (blue) is because I sold them. And the buyers were very impressed and pleased that the sale included THE ORIGINAL BOX.
I just got an aluminum 24" iMac last month. Oh, it was so slim and trim in the Apple store but I was bowled over by the size of the box when the sales clerk brought it from the back for checkout. I decided to buy an iLugger case for it but I'm keeping that box! The computer is too big to carry on an airplace but I can ship it ahead, insured, IN THE ORIGINAL BOX!!

Just a query ... I just bought a refurbished 24" iMac from Apple ... the Apple site says they repackage it in official boxes and everything.
I was just wondering how it is shipped? Do they put the imac box in another box? So that people don't really know what is inside the box?
Last time I got anything from Apple larger than the Mac Mini was in 1999 when I got a B&W G3 tower and monitor. The UPS shipper "joked" he was going to keep it since it had the pictures of the computer and monitor all over the box, so he knew exactly what I was getting.
I was going to "presign" for my computer when FedEx is supposed to deliver it on Wednesday, because I am never home when he comes by, and I don't think my boss would let me take the day off just to get a delivery. LOL. Packages are usually safe on my front porch, but if it screams "COMPUTER! HERE!" on the packaging people would probably be able to see it from the street.
I dunno, I'm just a paranoid chick, I guess. LOL
