View Full Version : How excited are you about MacWorld?

Jan 9, 2008, 09:16 PM
Just how excited are you about MacWorld this year? Among all the cool new stuff being released is the much talked about "thin" MacBook and the new updates to the current MBP....

Jan 9, 2008, 09:26 PM
I'm a 9, interested to see what will come out, but I'm not planning on buying much of anything, unless it is smaller accessories.

Jan 9, 2008, 09:26 PM
I'd be interested - but not. I am perfectly happy with my current hardware, so unless they announce a killer service pack for Leopard - i'd rather not lust after something I don't NEED.

Plus - I won't be in the country to find out anyhow. :(

This much:

(3rd party SDK demo makes me want to hula!)

Jan 9, 2008, 09:30 PM
i think there will be some great things but there will always be disappointments to along with everything so they can't make everyone happy

Jan 9, 2008, 09:48 PM

They already released what I was waiting for...the Mac Pro

So I'm anxious to see what they roll out with...hopefully nothing that will sway me from my plans of getting the pro (ultra-portable might though:confused:)

A new Cinema Display with built-in iSight and/or Apple remote sensor please...to go along with the new Pros of course!! :)

Jan 9, 2008, 09:49 PM
Interested, but not excited.

I'll read the MacRumours Live coverage, but I won't be soo tense that i keep hitting Refresh, even though I shouldn't.

I'll still keep working during, and try not to yelp with excitement when another text line of play-by-play is added.

I will probably wear jeans, but not necessarily put on the black turtleneck, although it's clean, pressed, and on the hanger on my wardrobe door handle.

I will try to remember to shave, and not have the Jobs 5-Day salt-and-pepper jaw shadow.

I won't hold up my lighter in the darkened studio at the end, hoping against hope for the "One More Thing" encore.

I won't count the sleeps until Tuesday (6, if I can even get to sleep on Monday).

Okay, maybe I'm kinda pumped.

I'm going to the keynote, so 10[:

I wish I could go, thats awesome... I can't wait for macworld... definitely a 9-10

Jan 9, 2008, 10:17 PM
A 7 for me, I don't want to get my hopes up. I'm in the market for a new MacBook Pro and Cinema Display, so I hope they get updated or possibly even redesigned.

Jan 10, 2008, 12:52 AM
Pretty excited, though not planning on any major purchases soon. But I have this feeling that SJ will be showing something in SF that no one has yet predicted or anticipated.

Jan 10, 2008, 01:51 AM
I've been saving up and I am buying my first mac after the announcements.

Jan 10, 2008, 06:06 AM
5-6 for me. I'm not in the market for anything, but I do follow it for the excitement.

Congratulations sommerch. I switched four years ago and am loving it!

Jan 10, 2008, 06:13 AM
Never known about MW before this year, but v interested - 9 i guess

Jan 10, 2008, 06:19 AM
I'm excited. I won't be buying anything but I enjoy the hype and the suspense and I'm always fascinated by the new stuff. The RDF is always very feel good about Apple stuff in general.

Plus there will be software updates, so something for eveybody! :)

Jan 10, 2008, 06:58 AM
Had a widget counting down for what seems like an eternity. I want to be self-disciplined enough to wait for the quicktime stream but can't see it happening, really... Just too excited!!!

I always try to go down the self-discipline route.

I never succeed

Nah... a fiver...

I gave up on getting myself a new MacBook Pro (financing didn't fall into place), so I just ordered a 320GB disc for my 1G MacBook 2.0CD. That should extend its lifespan a bit... and, to be fair, I'm not due for a new Mac purchase until 2009 to keep up my 3 year interval (bought Macs in 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2006 ;)).

Also just gave up on waiting for the iPhone to be (officially) released in Norway any time soon (don't want a hacked one, that kind of defeats the purpose). Got myself a Nokia E61i instead. And with a year contract I'm ready for a 3G-capable iPhone with a nice 3rd party sftp client/text editor la Coda next Christmas... ;)

Couldn't care less about the rumoured ultralight, as I'm more likely to go up in size from my MacBook than down. My phone is my ultralight.

My 8GB black 2G iPod nano is also performing nicely and are - hopefully - not due for a replacement for a long, long time.

Video rentals from iTunes... meh... cannot even buy shows or films here, yet... not really an issue.

The only reason I gave it a 5 and not a 0 is that there just might be a surprise, something truly spectacular - even if odds are against it - and that makes me a bit exited, as always...

Now, I'm VERY exited for MW2009. Hopefully they'll release MBPs with two internal, user changeable HDs (for Time Machine or even a RAID1 ***drool*** for safety). Of course these could be released already this year, in which case waiting a whole year to buy one would be extremely painful...

Jan 10, 2008, 10:30 AM
I'm interested, but I can't say excited. My 2-month-old MacBook will hopefully be around for several years as well as my iPod. I am very interested to see what changes and new additions Apple will make. There's only 2 things that would make a new purchase for me feasible and they are very unlikely:

1. 15" MacBook - If the price were right (MBP is just too expensive and too much machine for my usage) I would conside selling my MacBook and picking one up.

2. iPhone available through Sprint with much bigger HD. It would be an iPod replacement so it would have to offer more than 20 GB.

I'm not holding my breath for either, but (like with Sprint) I am loyal to companies that offer great products and service so I am always interested in what Apple is doing.

Jan 10, 2008, 10:33 AM

Maybe I'm just getting old.

Jan 10, 2008, 10:52 AM
This happens every year....hype, high expectations, Mac users literally giddy with excitment and the anticipation of a 5 year old at Christmas. Followed by numerous bitterly angry postings here and other forums about what a crappy company Apple is after they find out that their favorite product didn't get a massive redesign or speed bump/

So far, on this forum, I've seen anticipation and predictions of complete upgrades and design on every single product Apple makes. To me, reading MacRumors on January 16 is going to be a lot more interesting than MacWorld itself.

Jan 10, 2008, 11:03 AM
Not at all.

Big whoop!

Jan 10, 2008, 12:06 PM

Maybe I'm just getting old.

Ok, well... I'm already old, but...

My PowerBook G4 1.25GHz will be 4 years old in April.... Looking forward to getting a BRAND SPANKING NEW 17" MacBook Pro.... after all, I had asked all my family members and friends with whom I exchange gifts with at Christmas, to get me Apple Gift Cards ... I think I bought them all sweaters!! :D

So, now I have nearly $800 toward a new MBP. Plus, at work, we get a corporate discount... which amounts to almost another $500...

Did I mention my excitement level is at about an 11 ??:)

Jan 10, 2008, 12:29 PM
I don't knwo about excitement, all I know is that I'm going crazy waiting for it, and the early release of the updated Mac Pro only increased my crazy level. I know what I want, a mid-tower, and I know all the arguments for and against, but I'd also take a MacMini update with an open PCI-e slot. MWSF has to have something new, right? Almost all the rumors reflect existing products, with the possible exception of an ultra-portable/tablet. The only thing that seems absent in the Mac line-up, and I know there are arguments for and against, is a mid-tower, consumer-level, particularly with the Mac Pro going up to eight cores. Seems like space for a four core consumer Clovertown with a PCI-e slot, but maybe just wishful thinking on my part. So I'm going crazy waiting:eek:

Jan 10, 2008, 01:29 PM
I have taken day off Tuesday to follow it, I just love Apple events with the new surprises and beautifull products!

Jan 10, 2008, 01:50 PM
We always get some surprises.

I'm hoping for some new software. Whether a 10.5 update or something else.

At least we will get reall products, not “visions” or “concepts” like at another large consumer electronics show.

Jan 10, 2008, 02:09 PM
Since I am going, you should know my pick.

Jan 10, 2008, 02:48 PM

Or more directly... when is Jobs' keynote and how soon after will new products be on sale?

Jan 10, 2008, 02:51 PM
I want new ACD's. I dont want to buy now but seeing as how many problems new apple products seem to have, by the time i'm ready in 6 - 9 months they will have hopefully fixed them :)

Oh and an update to leopard which fixed the time machine read only problem as well as the adobe lightroom metadata problem which crashes finder.

Anything else would just be gravy :)

Jan 10, 2008, 03:18 PM
They don'ts like the B-word here, so B carefuls.

Ok.. I'll try not to use the dreaded B-word again.

Jan 10, 2008, 04:57 PM
Pretty darn excited, but probably for different reasons than most people. I just happened to get enough saved up for my MBP this soon before Macworld, so I'm just super excited about it because whether or new MBPs are announced, I'm not going to wait past Macworld, so I get a new laptop in the next few weeks (hopefully Tuesday). I mean if they do announce new Macbook Pros and delay the release I'm going to wait for that release, but please Apple, just release them immediately! That would be a painful wait, having waited anxiously for Jan 15th so long (yes, 3 weeks seems like a long wait with this sort of thing).

Jan 10, 2008, 05:34 PM
I wish i didnt have school tuesday, but you know ill be on my iphone every 5 minutes seeing whats new. And then ill get to watch it all later!! I cant wait !! This is going to be a great year!

Jan 10, 2008, 05:48 PM

not looking forward to having ot wake up at like 7~ every morning for the week, with only a handful hrs of sleep throughout the whole week! boo to parting every night after its closed for teh day hehe

see you all there.. to those who're going!

Jan 10, 2008, 09:16 PM
i am soo excited for macworld that i am staying home from school to stay on top of the new releases from macworld.. i have been waiting for this macworld since the last one lol:apple::apple:

Jan 10, 2008, 09:48 PM
I have taken day off Tuesday to follow it, I just love Apple events with the new surprises and beautifull products!

12.5! I typed this post from my secret hiding spot inside of an air duct within the MacWorld Keynote auditorium. I've got some food and some water and I'm just going to chill till the 15th. Wish me luck! :D

Jan 10, 2008, 10:20 PM

P.S. i love you steve:)

Jan 11, 2008, 10:19 AM
I give an 9.

I have been ready to buy my first Apple since before Leo. I have been ready to buy a mbp 17" highres for quite some time. However I think that this is far from cutting edge and drastically needs updating. I keep thinking about how everyone else is jumping on better gfx, ssd, blu-rayRW, etc. This is what I am hoping for, at least maybe a SSD. I will be watching with child like anticipation. Steve - dont let us down.

Those going, have a great time, I would love to come over, but from the UK thats one expensive trip. See you around the newsfeeds :)

Jan 11, 2008, 12:19 PM
Ready to buy an iPhone now. Money in hand. Hope there's a decent iPhone update, otherwise I could have an iPhone all weekend!

Jan 11, 2008, 02:42 PM
I have taken day off Tuesday to follow it, I just love Apple events with the new surprises and beautifull products!

But you're an hour ahead of me which is about a zillion hours ahead of SF. You'll be able to go to work and then follow the keynote afterwards!

Jan 12, 2008, 12:55 AM
Extrenely excited because I'm going! Can't wait. Plus we know this won't be all about the iPhone, hopefully it will be better than last years.

Jan 12, 2008, 01:08 AM
I usually really look forward to Macworld but this year it's just "not happening" for me. The only thing I want is an HD-capable version of DVD Player.

Jan 12, 2008, 01:48 AM
New MBP updates? You're pulling that one out of your rear end.

I'm realistically hoping for an updated Apple TV, which ideally would have a Blu-Ray player built in.

Jan 12, 2008, 01:49 AM
Everyone is always wowed when Steve does the one more thing

Jan 13, 2008, 06:47 AM
Defiantly 10! Cant wait! So excited! Im waiting until MacWorld to get my new Mac to replace my dead iBook, excited to see what happens just hope I can afford it!!!!!!

Jan 13, 2008, 06:55 AM
I always am excited for Apple Events, but I really wasn't as stoked for this years Macworld until this week...

I really am not expecting much from Apple on the Apple TV front...rentals are great, but I want a bump to the resolution (Particularly HD and 5.1 support and I do not think this is coming yet). I also did not really care about a thin Macbook because I have a Powerbook G4 that I carry around; however,

With all the rumors about the "Macbook Air" coming out, and the fact that there is likely to not be any hard drive or optical bay in it is getting me very happy. My 17" G4 is large and heavy for what I use it for now, which is at school really...it was my primary computer for 4 years, but I have an iMac now for that...I really love what this new Macbook could be...

So I was originally a 6 or 7, but now am a 10...I still feel the Apple TV update is going to be disappointing, but I hope not.

Jan 13, 2008, 06:57 AM
I am praying they release a new MBP. Than I can finally buy my first mac! so 10 for me

Jan 13, 2008, 11:27 PM

Where the heck are the OP and you pulling this from??? The MBP does not really need an update yet IMO.

Don't hold your breath.

Jan 13, 2008, 11:40 PM
10, cause I'm going to be purchasing my first Mac after. I'm hoping for the thinner Macbook, or at least a chassis update.

Jan 14, 2008, 12:18 AM
I wish i didnt have school tuesday, but you know ill be on my iphone every 5 minutes seeing whats new. And then ill get to watch it all later!! I cant wait !! This is going to be a great year!

Haha. I'll be at work, but I know I'll be doing the same when I need to take a bathroom break. ^_^

About the supposed MBP update: I agree. They really aren't due for a revision yet. The current MBP line is fine.

Jan 14, 2008, 01:14 AM
I'm tired of all the hype on the "airbook" already. Last week I would have voted a 9 on this poll. Now I'm starting to think I'll just read about Macworld 2008 after it's over instead of hanging out online as the keynote progresses.

Maybe I just have seasonal affective disorder, jeez! Pass the sunlight please.

Jan 14, 2008, 08:03 AM
I'm tired of all the hype on the "airbook" already.Myself included. Way too much is being made of that banner. I'm not getting my hopes up, but all I want to see is a Tablet with OS X "Touch" that is Wacom Penabled (http://www.wacom-components.com/english/technology/penabled.html).

Jan 14, 2008, 02:56 PM
Thanks for all the votes people. I personally am a 5. It seems that every year they have some cool new things but there is always a disappointment because something I was hoped to be updated wasn't. Well only 20 hours left now so I guess we'll see what happens!
