View Full Version : How do producers make that background vocal sound in these clips?

You will hear the original song play then the main vocal taken out to hear the background vocals.... How do they make that background vocal sound?

They multitrack them.
They might record each part 3 times or more, although it's rare to do it a large number of times as it's difficult for any singer, even the best, to perform it in exactly the same way each time with the same phrasing etc...

THey might multitrack them but they do something else to it too... What I dunno Sounds like they do something weird using stereo effects?

Or adding frequencies to vocals somehow

Shedloads of reverb usually seems to work.
As KillyP said though; it's all about multi-tracking.
I've used multi-tracking in every recording I've ever done, it's a very useful convention.

A good place to practice is in Garageband. You can activate each track and have it play louder or softer then the other layers. Pretty easy. Good Luck!
