WiMax looks good to me.

Unless Apple buys that spectrum up for auction...

Seems to be pretty experimental. If Apple really solved this at macworld it would be one of the biggest technical breakthroughs since harddrives.

Apple has been filing patents for inductive wireless power transfer via a dock for an iPod/iPhone/iTablet.

after perusing this entry, it wouldn't seem safe/healthy to have this in anything.

Well just perusing a summary of a technology tends to do that.

How can it be WiMAX? Its barely been deployed. It would be next to useless for 99% of people right now.

A 3G/HSDPA card is far more likely.

3g is also barely rolled out in the US. I doubt Apple is going to be building in support for connections that are slow, out of control of the end user, and not have wide coverage (in their computers).

3G has a million times more coverage than WiMAX right now.

Having slow coverage is better than no coverage, which is what you are confined to with a laptop and no wifi connection.

You do realize that the various mobile phone companies will sell you modems to connect to their networks, right? The only thing your suggestion would do would be to remove the step involving a network selling you a modem. It wouldn't be any easier. I find it difficult to believe this is Apple's killer app for 2008.

I didn't say it was.

I said WiMAX is pointless right now for 99% of people.

And that 3g is more likely. I commented that saying 3g is more likely is like saying an open sewer doesn't smell as bad as walking through a dump.

Then why haven't you heard of these guys? Got a lot of press in 2007Q3: http://www.wipowerinc.com/
