Hey all,

I don't really like how a program remains open after I close all windows of that program. i.e. if I close all my safari windows, the blue light is still shown on the dock, etc. Is there a program out there that will close the program after all windows are closed instead of hitting cmd+q every time? thanks!

Trevor

is there a need to actually close the app totally?

the way the OS handles apps is very different than XP.
having all windows closed and the app still effectively open isn't going to hurt performance wise, unless its one of the few apps that run things with no windows open.

or command+q

i cant live without command q

if you close the iphone window, it the app closes, same thing with imovie, thats if you have ilife 08

there are others

When I first switched, this was one of the big things that annoyed me - why wouldnt the app close after I closed all the windows? I gave it a bit of time and now I just leave several apps running, esp. Safari and Dreamweaver, as I will always go back to those apps and not having to wait for them to relaunch is a real time saver.

another hard thing to get used to is intalling programs, disk images was something i needed to get used to

Yes that too, but when you think about it - it makes sense. Now if only developers would stop placing files in random places when using an installer and then not providing an uninstaller.

command + Q = awesome seriously coming from windows I had never heard of alt + f4 to close a window so I found command + Q to be soooooooooo awesome it's so much more convinient its like " hey app I'm done with you... what?! what?! hit x no I'm to good for that" I love it!

Enthusiastic much? somebody loves quitting apps

You can also use something like SteerMouse to map CMD+Q to a button on your mouse. I use the thumbwheel on my MX Revolution for that purpose (although I have app-specific bindings for that button set up too) ... 🙂

Not all of them... iSync doesn't, and neither does AppZapper

I don't use App Zapper and it's not part of the OS so I can't speak for it but ditto for me, iSync quits when hitting the close button as it's a single windowed app.
