Hmm... I've been using my new 15" for a few days now and I love it. It's really gorgeous. But yesterday night, I started to notice a weird whining sound I hadn't heard before. It stops when there is activity on the screen (e.g. scrolling in Safari), so I guess it is related to the graphics card.

Anybody heard about it? It's quite annoying, and I have no idea what to do to stop it.

yeah ive noticed that whining as well. But i think its the hard drive, i dunno. Most of it happens when im accessing apples https pages (odd) but i do get it when im on some others. If you go to the Apple disscussions page many people have complained about the same thing.

I've never heard a whine on mine...what were you doing prior to it whining? What applications were open at the time? Perhaps something caused a hardware glitch if it only started last night.

I did mean last night, yes, but I have no idea what you are talking about :).

As for the whining, I am sure it is not related to the hard disk, since it sounds quite different. I tried out a few things and found out that the whining only occurs when Logic is active, and when my a6|2m interface is connected to the PowerBook, and when the computer has been running for a while. The whining still stops when graphics are updated (when opening a menu, scrolling, etc.), and it clearly comes from the PowerBook, not from the a6|2m.

I am puzzled.

I've noticed the same thing here. It only happens in Safari when some pages are loading and I think you are right about it being with https sites. It happens when I've logged into my old AOL account (https). Good to know I'm not the only one. I'll take a look at Apples Knowledge base. BTW, do you know the keywords or have the link for that thread?

Shine on you crazy diamond is a Pink Floyd song. One of my social groups uses the line to explain something that other people might think crazy but the person sees no problem with it. As into say that the person is a tripper (such a bad term as we are the chemical generation), so "Shine on you crazy diamond" is what i would have said to you if you would continue to use the term yesterday night instead of last night.

Does that help???

Right...

Anyway, my Powerbook does the same thing.
