Speculations about 10.5.2

Hmm, Apple announced few new products as you know. What I´m interested in, is 10.5.2 what they didn´t announced. New Air is shipping in 2-3 weeks, could this mean that 10.5.2 is coming out then because I think that Air needs new drivers and they come along with 10.5.2.

Maybe I´m just too desperate waiting my 8800GT Mac Pro :(

I'd say that you are right on the mark. Also the latest developer seed of 10.5.2 is only about a week and a half old.

Apple just posted another 10.5.2 build on developer connection. Build is 9C16 and has few known issues so I think the final will come very soon.

There is an application called "Remote Install Mac OS X" on the new 10.5.2 build to remote install X onto MB Airs. So I'm assuming 10.5.2 will be included within Mac Book Airs, meaning it'll be final within 2 weeks.

I'd imagine that the 2-3 week availablity is based on on 10.5.2 reaching a release build. The machines at MW would seem to be using an unreleased new build of 10.5.1 .

So it wouldn't be a far-cry to say that the 8800GT will be shipping in two weeks when the 10.5.2 comes out... it makes sense, considering a week ago the ship date said 3-5 weeks AND that the Macbook Air, Apple TV, etc.. will be shipping by then.

The skinny on the new MP's is that development was done using Radeon X1900 cards. X2600 and 8800GT were a last minute choice made because 7300GT and X1900 are EOL. Appears Apple was slow on rewriting the 8800GT ROMs and chose only to support UEFI 64.

That was pretty stupid. As you say 7300GT and X1900 are EOL. In fact I don't think 7300GT is even produced any more. I'm not sure about X1900.

The Service Source document for Mac Pro ( early 2008 ) photographs are of the development machines and only show and mention the X1900. 7300 and X1900 being EOL is common knowledge.

Most likely, the 10.5.2 update will include the drivers for the 8800GT for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Mac Pro line. Evidence shows Steve said this was being worked (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=413104), and that the 8800GT is not working right (http://http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=250851)in the old Mac pro at this point.

Why $30 when they could charge more? I'm guessing it'll be a $50 upgrade. Remember will will be getting ALL NEW stack features (list view) and ALL NEW working wireless. It's got to be worth $50 at least!?

If this was true then the Shipping Estimate would count down to that date. Instead, when you order and my receipt keeps the same estimate. Also, My delivery is set for Feb 21 (ouch!), and I ordered two days after the new mac pro was released! If this were dependent on the mac air or more specifically the release of 10.5.2, delivery of the Mac Pros would be around the same time. This makes one think that it is a supply issue with the 8800 GT, not waiting on correcting software incompatibility.

It's bad enough we are paying $129.00 for point revisions, don't encourage Apple to charge for bug fix/minor updates.

As much as I dislike Microsoft and Windows XP, at least they did not charge for SP1, SP2 or SP3.
