UPDATE: This is apparently a known issue where the user setup comes back over and over. The way to fix it is to start up in Safe Boot mode by holding down shift on startup.
I just installed (attempted) the quicktime update along with the associated updates on my 10.5.1 Aluminum iMac. I told it to restart and stepped away from my computer. When I came back all I saw was my desktop image and nothing else. I'm not sure whether it was on its way to restarting or already starting up after installing. So I waited a bit to see if it would load but it didn't. I've heard in the past you should try to start up in safe mode but I didn't try that. So anyway, I tried to start up and it was just giving me the user info setup and wouldn't go beyond it. So I said to myself could it have corrupted the installation? Anyway, I attempted to load my time machine backup from that same startup and it wouldn't do anything. I couldn't quit the backup and it wasn't doing anything. I couldn't load disk utility or anything. I couldn't even shut down the computer without turning off the power. So that's what I did and started up from my leopard dvd. So I ran disk utility and the disk seemed fine. So I tried to start up again after selecting it in startup disk. Of course that didn't help so I just restored my time machine backup and it took about 30 minutes thanks to my F800. (Thank God for firewire).
Anyone have some insight into the situation? Everything seems fine now, but I'm scared to update quicktime again. 😱
And yes I ran disk utility before. By the way, quicktime often quits unexpectedly when I have a bunch of streamed videos loading under Flip4Mac in Quicktime. It's kind of a pain to have to have the videos reload before watching them. Is there something wrong with Flip4Mac 2.2.0.49 or what? (It happened back when I had Tiger too).
