I decided to call FedEx and although the guy didn't have the details, he mentioned something about a snow storm in China, but indicated that it had not changed the expected delivery date. Sounds like a lag in explaining delays... Maybe...

This should be OK. I am having my MBA shipped to my address in the US but now reside permanently in Shanghai. The weather here has been awful and there are transportation delays all around. I believe the MBA's made it to Alaska later than intended and they are finally putting in the record/reasons why that was the case. I think the MBA's have departed Alaska to their final sorting destinations and were not shipped back to Shanghai

The weather has been awful out here. There has never been this amount of snow in Southern China. As a result, there is no infrastructure in place to deal with this type of weather and causing all sorts of delays.

Most of my employees intended to go back to their hometowns for the upcoming holidays but are now stuck in Shanghai. Freeways north and south of Shanghai are covered in 30km of ice and impossible for vehicles to drive on. Domestic flights are shut down because the runways have iced over. Shanghai Pudong International Airport is still running but only allowing outbound international flights with large delays and many flight cancellations. That is the airport FedEx uses to ship out of Shanghai.

in the meantime now I understand it's REALLY terrible for people in China trying to travel, millions of people delayed in their one chance to get home with familiy for the holidays. so I will hold a good thought for their weather to improve.

The situation sounds reasonably good for you guys whose paperwork and machines are separated. it's the reverse of what i was thinking that the papers were in alaska but not the laptops.

For me, not so great since I am behind you. in transit from Shanghai. so basically right now my machine is probably sitting in a pallet on the same plane as your little package of papers. well i was not sched for delivery until Wednesday, there is time yet for all this to sort out.

Here's a bit of a Washington Post January 30 piece about the snow in southern China. By now it seems about 8 airports have reopened but it must still be a terrible jam for the millions of people trying to get home for the holidays.

I know this probably seems passe to most on this thread, but as an Aussie I'm a little further behind (surprise surprise) with my order for my MBA. Basically, I placed an order online on the 17th Jan (with shipment by 15th Feb, delivery by 19th), and to date nothing has changed in my credit card account; Apple hasn't debited my account yet. When will/should this happen?

Also, I, along with CyberGypsy and others, are set to get our MBA's before 10:30AM monday 2/4. I would venture to say you can't wait that long; neither can I. So, hopefully this will save many people some time.

Noting that my Macbook Air arrived at my local Waco Tx sort facility at the wee hours of the morning, I thought I would pay them a visit after my copyright law exam; after that test, I thought I could make anything happen.

Though, when I arrived, the person initially seemed excited to help brighten my day, that is until she saw who the package was coming from, Apple. At least at the Waco Fedex, they say that anytime Apple releases something new, they get a deluge of angry and impatient customers coming to FedEx to get their package. Knowing this, I thought I would try to charm her into seeking out my package (literally within 500 feet of me), buying her 1/2 dozen white roses.

The funny part was that she was seemed eager to help until she saw that the tracking number says "Package not due for delivery" next to the most recent entry, which seems to mean there is NO way you are getting your MacBook Air before monday, notwithstanding the fact that it may be sitting, moderately accessible by a friendly customer service agent.

Save yourself the miles and the cost of the flowers (or bribe for that matter). Hopefully you won't feel the urge to just go there and try, because it most likely won't work.

Well, this is the first forum or thread I've joined in on and find this one very interesting. I ordered my MBA (standard configuration) on 1\16\08' at around 9:00 A.M. and it is sitting in Indy right now. The bad news is I'm headed out of town Monday A.M. so I won't see it until Sunday when I get back and can go to my office and pick it up. In the mean time I'll just enjoy reading the impressions from everyone else who gets there's. I have a MBP 2.33 Core 2 Duo and 24" iMac Aluminum w\2.4 and 4GB RAM and of course an iPhone. I switched over to Mac about 1-1\2 years ago and have never looked back. Have switched over many family, friends and colleagues and everyone loves them! I'll post again when I get the chance to use the MBA when I get back!

i think ordering from 3rd party stores is a good idea if you want it "soon"
casue i think apple will prob put a more priority to preorders and thier own apple stores before stocking up 3rd party stores

i ordered my mbp before at macmall and i got it like 3 weeks after everyone got it..
however it was cheaper and came with some free stuff
so if you can "wait" then it's a good plan to order 3rd party you get free stuff and discounts

I ordered de 1.8/64SDD. So I went online to check my status and it said in RED: Atention Required... So it said that my credit card didnt authorise my transaction. I had to call chevy chase and ask them to remove their filthy $2000 transaction limit.

So now only the superdrive shipped because it was the only thing that went through and my USB ethernet and MBA still have not shipped...

The transaction was finally autorised 5 mins after I got the warning cus I called chevy chase yesterday and told them to allow it... so apple in theory has a liability with me, my questions is...

When will it get shipped? Does anyone know if they ship from China during weekends? (ie: Do the planes fly during the weekend?)

My shipping also said delivery for Monday, it was delivered Friday AM. From the rest of the posts it seems Fedex is running one business day ahead of schedule.

The exception that most were wondering about, like me, was the one that appeared from Shanghai after the shipment was in Anchorage. A computer glitch. All seems fine now. Still waiting for Indy to wake up thought.:)

someone here said it's casue apple only has a certain amount of space in the fedex planes so it means yours is ready to be put in the plane but the plane is full basically so ull be on the next flight

It is really just a guess. If you go to flightware.com, then look up fedex, then look at all the departures from indy around the time that yours says departed, then look at the destination city, to make sure that it is the right direction to you house, and that might be the plane. I know that usually fed-ex routes my packages through manchester or portland, or both.

I hit the newest NYC Apple store at 14th St this afternoon to pick up an Agent18 case for my iPhone and got to finally see the Air in person. They had 12 of them out on display, and they are truly amazing to behold up close! Everyone's first reaction is to pick it up to see just how light it is. I can only hope that someday, the MBP will migrate to this form factor!

For now, i'll continue to use my 2.16 Core Duo MBP and see what the imminent update has to offer, then hand this one down to my girlfriend.

I can't complain too much, though, as I get to look forward to the delivery of a new dual core 3.0GHz Mac Pro around February 18th :D

Welcome to the community! In my experiences, Ive found that Apple almost always ships well before their deadline. For me, only on 2 occasions (Aluminum wireless keyboard and Bluetooth headset) did Apple ship on the exact deadline date. Everyone on this board (I think) has had their MBA ship before the shipping deadline.

I ordered de 1.8/64SDD. So I went online to check my status and it said in RED: Atention Required... So it said that my credit card didnt authorise my transaction. I had to call chevy chase and ask them to remove their filthy $2000 transaction limit.

So now only the superdrive shipped because it was the only thing that went through and my USB ethernet and MBA still have not shipped...

The transaction was finally autorised 5 mins after I got the warning cus I called chevy chase yesterday and told them to allow it... so apple in theory has a liability with me, my questions is...

When will it get shipped? Does anyone know if they ship from China during weekends? (ie: Do the planes fly during the weekend?)

The Tom Bihn offers the best dent protection in that group. The others are soft-sided bags without hard inserts. Brenthaven also makes good dent-resistant cases with plastic inserts (you can find these inside most Apple stores as well).

I've learned the hard way about bags that value style over protection when it comes to aluminum notebooks. Hard shells or stiff plastic liners are the way to go, if dents are a primary concern.

I have to say, though, that the MacBook Air looks much more dent-resistant than the MacBook Pro, especially around the edges and dent-magnet corners. That tapered edge design should prove to be very durable.

the only thing ive seen so far was one guy had his air not perflectly flat so if you push on the left edge it dip a lil bit but he was saying after a bit it kinda settled .. thats my biggest concern right now

other complain about the amount of hdd space.. not being enough..
and other is the mono speaker.. but both of these i dont' care so much about i know 80gb is more than enough for what i plan to use it for and speaker i used my headphones most of the time hehe

After hearing the Mono speaker announcement I realized that I have never used the internal speakers on my laptop before. It is always headphones. It is better to have the Mono than no speakers at all though. I bet that came up when they were deciding what was needed and what was being dropped :)

I don't know. I placed my order on the 19th, a few days after the keynote. And my ship date is Feb 12!

I certainly hope to be able to buy it from one of the retail stores before Feb 12.

fair enough. anecdotal reports indicate, however, that some stores were only given demo units and less than a handful of salable units. most that were able to get an mba in store were successful in getting the store to sell them a unit, or an employee unaware to refrain from selling mba's until officially instructed to do so. additionally, white bags were used to conceal the transaction. yes, i'm aware a store had some fanfare when it sold its first mba, but that has not been the norm.

a sale is a sale, but as of tonight, the mba is generally unavailable.

'Tis 10:30PM Saturday night in Phoenix, Arizona. I went by two of the local Apple stores today and both had a few Macbook Air Superdrives for sale and a couple of the 45 watt MBA power bricks. In both stores, there were two MBA 1.6 HDD units and one MBA 1.8 SDD unit on the demo table. Neither store's employees were sure when they would have MBAs of any configuration in stock. I took advantage of one store's stock and purchased a MBA Superdrive. When I got home, I cancelled that item on my open order (which still had a 22 Feb ship date). Going to the FedEx website a few minutes ago, I saw my unit (1.8 SSD iWork) was now in the tender clutches of our favorite original overnight delivery service. It appears the unit was picked up around 6:10PM China time on 2 Feb, which was after the FedEx cutoff time. That seems to be the normal procedure over there as that is the pattern I have seen on multiple custom built laptops and and a custom built iMac. :confused:

Tomorrow morning I should expect to see that the shipment progressed to Anchorage, AK and will be possibly enroute to Indianapolis to clear customs. I might even have a finite delivery date as well. :D

I thought from my hands on experience of the speed of the 1.8 SSD that it was on a par or quicker than my 17" MPPro @ 2.33Ghz, 3 Gb of ram and a 5400 rpm drive. Of course all one could do was load programs and webpages. The OS and support files left about 37.5Gb of free space on the SSD. That is enough room for a stripped down Vmware Fusion WinXP system for a couple of Garmin mapping programs and iWork. 08 which I have elected to be my office suite due to the bloated nature of Redmond's products. The SSD unit will ride well in a motorcycle on cross country trips and the USB Verizon wireless will provide country wide connections where Wi-Fi or ethernet is missing. I am looking forward to this addition to my laptop inventory. :apple:

I ordered mine that thursday after the keynote and am still in the "not yet shipped" phase. I feel gypped. Apple says my order is "custom configured," which is bogus because its the 1.6/80. I did order the apple remote with it, but that is kind of a crap reason for it to take so long. Congrats all of you who have MBA's en route.

I would call Apple and make sure everything is okay with the order. My got delayed for two days (which I was unaware of) until yesterday because an idiot at Apple tried to place an overnight shipping charge (which he said was free) to a gift-card I had on the order (which caused it to go over by $2 and prevent the payment from going through since the gift-card as a limit obviously).

Not stuck in Indy for me, stuck in Anchorage. Which makes sense, since I'm in Anchorage. But I've been stuck on International Release since Friday morning. I went down to try to pick it up and the guy there told me it's in customs, behind a locked gate and they have no access to it.

Perhaps Apple requested they stay locked up at customs for safety until just before they're due for delivery? Which sucks. If not for that and their "no pickup" stipulation, I could've had my new MBA to use all weekend. Instead, it'll just sit at FedEx for 2-3 days.

I spoke to FedEx yesterday and they told me once it hits the hub on the weekend it doesn't move till they get closer to the business week. I asked if I could go to Indy and pick it up and she said no? Sad/happy to say mine was prepared and I only ordered at 10PM on the 16th (1.8/SSD)...It appears that they aren't following the order orders were received in...I can't complain, but in all fairness yours should have shipped out first (I'm from Montreal)

so i asked him when to expect it he said prob tuesday or wed ... boooo

for me in canada.. it goes memphis and goes to vancouver then gets delivery
so theres about 1 day delay compared to the US

I don't think anyone with your expected shipment date will be shipped early because of manufacturing delays.

Seems like everyone here who already has one is pleased with the Air and my short time with one convinced me that I really, really needed one. I tried a reboot and it was quite snappy (1.8/SSD), programs loaded fast, etc. It was too noisy in the store to hear one running but the two I felt the bottom of were no warmer than my cat when she sleeps in my lap.:D

I don't think estimated delivery date changes until it is on the truck for delivery. You should be good.
