I think the Fedex tracking website caches the results so that it stays responsive as you all hammer it looking for updates. :)

When I track my order (1.8/SSD/15th@4pm) on the Fedex site, the last thing I see is that it left Anchorage at 7:46PM yesterday.

When I track it on www.simpletracking.com I can see some more updated results, looks like it arrived in San Francisco this morning at 3:40AM.

I haven't tried simpletracking.com before now (just discovered it via google) but it seems to have some more recent info.

I don't think these timestamps are very accurate. I'm guessing they arrived in Memphis (together) earlier than 3:55 and then parted ways at some later time on their respective next legs.

So yes, I would think they have left Memphis. I don't trust the times too much but I think the events (i.e. having departed Memphis) are probably pretty accurate. Don't think they'd say it departed if it didn't. But I guess we'll see.

It almost seems possible we'll have them tomorrow - definitely Tuesday.

I'd say tomorrow. I don't know why your projected date would be Weds. Usually FedEx delivers a day early, but usually not two days early. This may be an exception. I just figured your air would've had to hit a major hub in Indy or Memphis for clearing purposes, though.

I would call Apple and make sure everything is okay with the order. My got delayed for two days (which I was unaware of) until yesterday because an idiot at Apple tried to place an overnight shipping charge (which he said was free) to a gift-card I had on the order (which caused it to go over by $2 and prevent the payment from going through since the gift-card as a limit obviously).

I had a similar experience, and it set me back about 4 days on the delivery. Evidently, there is a lag time until it hits the gift card, all the while you think you are "ok". Glad you caught it early. Hang in there!

I waited till Jan. 21st to order, and it still says it won't ship until Feb. 12th. Seems like a long time (more than 3 weeks after the order). I did get a custom configuration (1.6 w/ SSD), but I wouldn't think that would slow things down too much.

I'm pretty patient, but I am curious if anyone else who ordered "late" has had their MBA shipped.

I see we are sharing flight accommodations. It is nearly 24 hours since I last posted and still have no updated information available on any tracking service. The press has not reported any aviation incidents. There is a possibility that the power outages in Shanghai might have affected the airport and surrounding areas as power might be directed to residential areas that have been without power over a week. Another eight to ten hours should show an update on the tracking page. :confused:

mmm. Fedex doesn't update (nothing since yesterday) and simple tracking is completly out of is mind.:confused:

Why would my MBA do Memphis, then Indianapolis, then Hapeville (next to Atlanta) when in live in Ottawa, Canada... its going wrong way... and making detours. :mad: And why is it all of a sudden in Anchorage again ? I Think tracking is ******** !

Did anyone here NOT order on the 15th?

I waited till Jan. 21st to order, and it still says it won't ship until Feb. 12th. Seems like a long time (more than 3 weeks after the order). I did get a custom configuration (1.6 w/ SSD), but I wouldn't think that would slow things down too much.

I'm pretty patient, but I am curious if anyone else who ordered "late" has had their MBA shipped.

At this minute it hasn't shipped, but it is "prepared for shipment"

Maybe its not in Indy anymore. I think there's a lack of tracking updates. I remember when I ordered my iPod Nano (the week it came out, 1st (and shi*ty) version). I had something like, left apple, picked up by carrier, left california, then i got Toronto, then its was home. What happenned between california and Toronto (canada) ? lol!

I say wait for tommorow morning (open business day), maybe there will be a lot of tracking updates that will "pop-up". :cool:

Mine says the exact same thing. I think there is one more sorting stop but who knows. My Super Drive came out of California and is sitting at a Chicago Sorting Facility.:confused:

While mine did have a mysterious delay (I'm assuming customs inspection), it has since both arrived, and then departed from Memphis, TN - so I expect to have it Tuesday sometime.

The SuperDrive and RJ45 adapter are already here.

Initial forecast was the Feb 6th ship, Feb 12th landing. I'm ok with a Feb 5 landing date.

"dest sort facility" seems to imply it's the final stop where it'll be loaded onto a truck, so you might actually get it today.

BTW: what happened to the nice list we had going earlier? It'd be nice if someone could compile and update that again, so we'll get an idea how fast the orders are shipping out.

So right now I think it is trucking down to Binghamton. There's plenty time for it to get down there, but the ticket still sez 2/6 by 4:30pm.

I don't think it will be delivered two days early, it will probably sit there for at least one day. Stuff for this area leaves Binghamton on the delivery trucks right about 9am but we're way east of that hub so they show up after 3pm

I don't know who made that list (on the American side? was there one, i only saw a euro one i think). anyway my order was 1/15 11:47AM PST 1.8/ssd and it left Shanghai 2/1 9:42pm

I think I got it here...there was only 1 FedEx flight scheduled from Shanghai to Anchorage today, FDX92, which was scheduled to depart at 1:00 PM GMT which is 8:00 AM EST. It is now 2:30 GMT...so the plane is either more than 1:30 late or wont even be leaving....sooo much for my wednesday estimated delivery :(

I just had .mac sync my calendar, contacts and bookmarks and now I'm trying to figure out what I can get rid of stuff to maximize space. Not that I plan to try to put much on the HD but just want to get more than the 38.79 GB available when I first started it up. I will either remove languages and printers or reinstall.

I ordered the 1.6/80 on the 21st, and it just shipped in the middle of the night. Spent less than half a day prepared for shipment. I read someone that ordered on the 28th also had theirs shipped as well. Hopefully yours will go out soon!

When your format (erase) the entire drive by using the Install DVD that came with your computer and reinstalling Mac OS X. This is useful for removing applications you don't need that came with the computer or removing languages.

ok thats the heart of my question. if i need to add entourage and word. how much space will i have left after i clean stuff out of the system. how much do you think i can save cleaning stuff out.. is there any chance i will have enough room for vista? i bought a usb 2.0 bus powered hard drive. all my other **** will go on there

Mine arrived. It's even more amazing in person. Whoever posted that it looked/felt cheap has no clue. Very, very solid, sleek, and thin. You have to hold it to fully appreciate how cool it is.

The SSD is incredible. Launching apps is mostly instantaneous.

I just performed a clean install, removed all but the HP printer drivers, and removed all add'l language support, and a couple other minor things = 42.27GB free (about 6GB more than I had before).

Garageband couldn't be unchecked during the install phase, but it was only about 200MB if I remember correctly.

my tech guy said that is deceiving. garage band throws about 5 gigs around the drive. you have to remove the library's etc.

i dont see any reason for using the airdisk except in emergencies. it will always be faster to use a usb optical drive apples or a third party

Ordered my 1.6/80 MBA on 1/15 at 3pm PST. Still listed as not yet shipped. Meanwhile others have theirs who ordered later. Ordered through the Educational Store- guess I'm at the back of the line. Listed as ships Feb 6, arrives Feb 12. Since I'm traveling on Feb 13, hope to have it by then as my 12" MPB is on its last legs. I'm looking forward to the lower weight- MPB has been to Japan, Brazil, Spain, Poland, Ireland, Australia and about 25 states. 2 pounds less weight times all those miles is a lot of energy savings.

Got my new little puppy and I'm as happy as can be!

Already did a fresh install of OSX and saved about 6gb.

I am now installing Windows Vista (in a 20gb partition) via a desktop DVD drive connected with an IDE to USB adapter cable and the MBA recognized it as a bootable device! No need for me to purchase the superdrive!

Just wanted to let people know that this is an option -- and you can get the IDE to USB cable really cheap on eBay (REALLY Cheap as in a couple of bucks!)

Call FedEx and ask them to hold it for you. They'll pull it off the truck and you'll probably be able to pick up early evening.

FedEx has said that the driver told them my address didn't exist before so I've had to do just that in the past. I don't believe that Apple's "no pick up" rule applies in this case because it's a misdirected package. You'll just need ID to get it.

They have them in at the Apple Store in Jax which is a 5 hour drive from here round trip. They actually put one of the base models on hold for me. So, the caveat is I sacrifice my $100.00 discount that I got with my online order (ship date by 2/20) but...I can have it in my hands today! Of course, it means re-arranging the rest of my day and the drive and the gas $.
I've always been patient and ordered online or w/ Amazon (have an order with them too-gold box discount no less but still no telling when it will ship-blanket date of 3/27 still) to get the best price, but I'm thinking I may just take a road trip today and the heck with the $! I just once would like to walk out of an Apple store with a computer purchase and experience that instant gratification feeling

One question: if for some reason I needed to exchange it or return it, or if there was an issue with it, could I just call Apple support or would i have to drive all the way back to Jax?

My MBA came today. The great news (1.8/80) after briefly looking at it is that it doesn't wobble, and the fan doesn't bother me at all- didn't notice much if any noise.

This was due to deliver on 02.06, so this is a real treat. The really cool thing was that I went to track it a few minutes ago, and it said delivered! I went to the front of the office to check this out, and literally, my receptionist was bringing it back to me and the front door was closing as the FedEx guy was leaving. That is some real time tracking!

I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of an extra update. On the tracking it was scanned as having left origin on Saturday, so that probably means it was scanned to go but waiting to be loaded. I don't think they scan again until it lands at the next step in the trip.

I ordered through the Edu store as well, same day as you (only ~3 hrs earlier) and had the 1.8/64SSD drive version arrive this morning at 9:30am. Since the custom 1.8/ssd versions seemed to have been shipping later than the stock versions, there might be something wrong with your order. I'd contact Apple if I were you.

I worked all night (night shift) last night, got 3 hours of sleep and the MacBook Air showed up at 11:13 AM PDT.

I'm am very happy, it is a very nice laptop. No rocking or warping, perfect screen, can barely hear the fan, not running hot at all (despite doing a clean install pretty much right out of the box).

BTW, stock install of OS X and bundled applications works out to 17.39 GB used space. We'll see how much space the clean install gets me. I'll post the info at the above Google Group and here when I can, including how migrating files over goes.

Hope you folks all get yours really soon, this thing is really sweet.

I was playing around and carrying my MacBook Air around the house when my wife wanted to use it. So I went and picked up my MacBook pro to use. That I was gonna get a hernia from lifting it:)

Well, guys, I cancelled my "pre-order" which I placed on the 19th.

Because I was able to just buy one at the store in Tysons Corner, VA at lunch!

I did the same thing today. I had purchased my accessories this past weekend and managed to get my Macbook Air today at lunch :o

It came two days early. Box was crazy small.. I love it. It is sooo light. Its also completely silent. No noise. At all. btw its a 1.8/80GB.
