For those still keeping track, my 1.6/HDD MBA ordered about 4 hours after the keynote, went prepared for shipping on Feb 5 and then changed to "ships Feb 29/arrives March 6", just got delivered to FedEx today on Feb 9 to leave on Feb. 10. It will be returned when it arrives because I picked one up at the Apple store on Feb 7. Don't know what it tells you about later orders except that Edu shipments have a very low priority..

Just to give a little hope to those that ordered Edu. I ordered my 1.6/HDD 2 days after the keynote through the Edu online and received it last Monday. It is a very awesome machine. Hang in there it will be to you quicker than you think!!!:D

It won't get to you overnight from Shanghai.

"Left Origin" means it has been picked up and is on the way to the plane. "In Transit" will mean it is on its way. Once it hits Anchorage, you should get it in a day or so.

Mine did the same thing. Probably something with Customs out of China. What really sucks is that a good part of China is shutdown because of the Lunar New Year Festival going on right now (my company has a couple plants in China and they're all shut down) so it might even be delayed longer....

For those of you who ordered late...I ordered my CTO 1.8/80GB on February 3 and it shipped yesterday Feb 11. It stayed on "Prepared for shipment" for less than a day. Estimated delivery day is Feb 15. BTW it was also an EDU order, so no I don't think they put you at the back of the line. I think they just have a certain day each week where they send out mass shipments and I barely made the cutoff. I know I've read that ALOT of other people have a Feb. 12 ship day.

This is just for those of you, like me, who have been ripping through this thread for the past 2 weeks trying to figure out an average of how long it takes to ship. :D

The flight that runs from Shanghai to Alaska and from Alaska to Indianapolis is FX24. It takes 8 hours to get from Shanghai to Alaska and 5 hours from Alaska to Indianapolis. Just some details those of us truly TRACKING our packages.

With MacBook air coming with no cdrom drive do think this will be the wave of the future with so many mp3 players out there i think it could be. I see it becoming more online even software downloads and os upgrades. This would be a good thing so people will not get in trouble using limewire other p2p sharing unless you break the codes of DMR. :apple: i can only hope if time capsule 2 comes out it has a cdrom drive in it for use with MacBook air. as of now i am very happy with my BlackMacBook who birthday is coming in days from now can anyone say upgrade haha its not maxed out on ramm yet!

argh, been my MBA has been just chilling out in china, hanging out on a jet way for the last 32 hours, Delivery isn't until Thursday, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONGEST 2 days of my life coming up... this is taking way to long. I know the people at FedEx IPD by name now from calling for updates every 2 hours, no point in calling any more now, its after 1am in China. Just to be clear, I have been on apple ass about this order. I wanted it yesterday, Hit them with a " I can get it from amazon fast then from you" and bang free over night. Then I was pissed they where in the stores just not in a 1.8/80 config and wanted to know why. I was also told at the time of order on the phone that the shipping date was a conservative estimate and mine would be there WAY sooner then listed. Called to find out my status and BANG, got a free Ethernet dongle. So I guess the lesson is don't be silent in your discontent about this release. I havn't and although I would have just settled for my MBA two weeks faster I did get EDU Pricing, Priority shipping, Overnight shipping and a Ethernet adapter.

No, I don't think I did -- they comped me the shipping, though. It was the "expedited" shipping but they said it was 2-3 days. Didn't get an option for overnight.

I'm waiting for that same config from amazon also. I doubt that 1-3 weeks means anything, because mine still has 42 days until its projected shipment. I figure they would at least update my shipping estimate if they knew when a new shipment would be in.

Can't wait to upgrade from my ancient PB G4 (almost 4.5 years old now and stil running 10.3).

Same thing here-- about the 3rd time I've had this sort of nonsense happen with an EDU order. Completely ridiculous.

I just cancelled -- will stick with my MBP for awhile longer and hold on to my 3K. If I decide I really need something smaller I will just suck it up and grab a PC, not optimal, but getting work done comes first.

I have to say that my interactions with Apple EDU are the pits -- rude as hell to top it all off.

My 1/15 Edu order was originally listed as ships Feb 6 arrives Feb 12. Waited until Feb 4 when it was listed as "Prepared to ship". On Feb 7 it was changed to ships Feb 29 arrives March 6. So I bought one at the Apple store that day instead of waiting 3 more weeks. Then I as surprised yesterday morning when the original order showed up on Feb 12. Had to send it back unopened but the MBA I do have is working well. Got more than 5 hours out of the batter today with screen dimmed slightly and airport turned off while I was on 2 planes.

Does "Prepared for shipment" mean that it's about to be loaded on the plane? Can it sit in the "Prepared for shipment" status for weeks?

I believe my status was "Not yet shipped" yesterday but is showing "Prepared for shipment" today. I placed the order on 02/05/08.

12:50, Purolator guy walks into my branch...small box at his side. Could it be. It is, my MBA is finally here and I havent felt like this since Christmas morning many, many years ago. I am shaking as I open the box...ok maybe not shaking but I am f"n excited. Wow....I cannot believe how small this thing really is. I sold my HP 12" tablety thing and this isnt much bigger footprint size and pictures DO NOT DO IT JUSTICE. This is freakishly thin like were is the guts of this thing. I press the power button and let er rip in my office. I get an OSX demo screen that shows colors like I have never seen in a computer screen before. Shoot.....no wifi in my office, I must wait till I get home to continue on. Forst impressions though, speechless. To think 4 months ago I would have never even dreamed of owning an Apple product. Thanks iPhone for showing me the way to MacBook Air.

I've watched forums and reports for any sign of widespread hardware defects that would make me wait for a "later batch" (if not actually a version B). I've seen no repeated issues other than software glitches (migration taking several tries for some) that can be fixed--and won't affect me anyway :)

My Air is ordered :D I did not get the SuperDrive or ethernet--I never use them on my old laptop anyway. I'll get them later IF some need arises.

The good news:

I got $110 off Apple's price, via Amazon.com--many thanks to the Gold Box tips in this thread! (But I did not have to create a new Amazon account. I just cleared out my old recommendation-sources, leaving only the Air Superdrive to base recommendations on. Two days later, the deal appeared. Also, I took the Air OUT of my wish list. I wasn't sure if that mattered, but I thought that maybe Amazon would think I didn't NEED an incentive to get things already in my wish list.)

The bad news:

Amazon estimates an April 15 ship date :o But I'm not in a desperate hurry and that date looks like a placeholder anyway: I ordered the 1.8 with HD (which would be $2100 BTO from Apple) and Amazon doesn't have those in stock yet. I don't know when they'll get them, but hopefully before April!

So I'll soon be getting the largest laptop I will ever buy :)

Unfortunately, I don't think FedEx works like that (closer = quicker). All FedEx pkgs are routed through their hub, which I think is in Memphis, TN. That is likely why the NJ pkg was del'd sooner.

Since all my bags are just too big (in general, and too big for the Air) I treated myself to a new Booq bag. Always wanted one of their bags...

For the past two years or so, I've been using both an Oakley (love 'em) AP Computer Bag (http://oakley.com/pd/5045). It's on the large size, can withstand absolutely any abuse, and is a great overnight/2-night bag.

In addition, the free bag I got at GameFest 2007 turned out to be a surprisingly great bag. Smaller than the Oakley, thin, and about as wide. No-name manufacturer, but it stands up to a lot and is very functional.

Anyway! I picked up a Boa Slimcase S90 (http://urltea.com/2q8a), their smallest bag. So far, this might be the greatest bag ever. Incredibly small and thin, yet has a cavernous interior - plenty of room for the Air, books/paperwork, plenty of gadgets, lunch, big headphones and a camera. The fit and finish is superb - it has one of the greatest features I've seen on any bag: magnetic pocket closures! It's a subtle feature, but very welcome.

Definitely recommended! =D

Last post in this thread. I am typing this on my new Macbook Air! The workmanship of this product is amazing! It's made in China, but it is a quality product for sure.

I was able to connect it to my wireless network in no time (except that the setup assistant couldn't connect it). I was also able to get to my Infrant ReadyNAS without any additional configuration. So, I have access to all of my centrally stored files. I have also installed MS Office 2008, which took about 15 min to install. Finally, I have installed all of the Mac OS X updates.

I ordered mine on 2/14 and it is in transit. Ready to ship yesterday, but missed the fedex cutoff point, so it went out today.

Estimated deliver date is Monday, 02/26. I am slightly disappointed that 2nd day air really did not get me anything.

Fedex can not change the shipment to allow Saturday delivery without Apple auth, Apple can not change per their corporate policy.

Meanwhile, both apple stores in my area have them in stock and did not check before I ordered online.
