I am wondering if the new Mail app uses SSL to log into your mail account (such as Gmail). I am concerned about using a WiFi hotspot and sending my username and password in the clear.

Also...I have the same question for accessing Gmail using the straight Safari browser. I've tried to point the browser to "https" rather than "http" and it always loads "http". Is there a way around this?

Thanks,
Daren

If your mail provider supports ssl, mail can handle it (look at the advanced tab in account setup). I don't use gmail, so can't comment on that.

Thanks for the reply...that answered my question.

Just to note...Gmail DOES support SSL.
