Garage Band Tempo Help

Anyone know if there an option to speed up an imported mp3? Ive dragged and dropped a 311 song and tried using the tempo slider to speed it up but it does nothing. The actual clip shortens or lengthens but the sound does not change ???

Convert the imported audio region into a real instrument region by selecting it and typing ctrl-option g. It should change from orange to purple. Then you can select Follow Tempo and Pitch in the track editor and it should then respond to tempo changes. Large changes, though, probably won't sound too good.
