Is there any way to use the function keys to open applications? I remember you could do this in OS 9.

Duff-Man says....there are a few macro utils out there to do this....try out X Keys (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18713) - it's free and should do the trick for you.....oh yeah!
