1. From iTunes menu bar, go into iTunes>Preferences or hit [cmd-,].
2. Click on the "Importing" tab.
3. Under "Import Using:", choose AIFF Encoder.
3a. Futz around with the settings, if you like.
4. Choose the mp3 track that you wish to change.
5. From the iTunes menu bar, go to Advanced>Convert Selection to AIFF.

Wait a few seconds (depending on computer speed) and Presto.

BTW, go back into Preferences to change it back to AAC or MP3 before ripping another CD. Otherwise you'll import your CDs as AIFF. I've done this a few times before.

Thanks very much for that. As a follow up is there a way to create a seperate file and also keep the original. In other words is there a way to take the original mp3 file and then make a seperate aiff file? Thanks again.

You'll have two files, one mp3 and one aiff.

Both files will show up in your iTunes Library. If you want to get to the file from the Finder, do a 'Get Info' on the file and follow the path.

Hope that helps.
