You can delete all the mail in batches you want...Use Gmail or like email provider that allows you to IMAP your email.
Go to your email account and delete to your hearts content in batches and view all the rest on your iPhone.
Simple, Fast and does not require double the work.

yeah, but that IS double the work...Say I log into mail2web to check delete the email I dont want, why should I bother not reading my email that Im interested in on there instead of deleting unwanted email, and than checking it again on my iphone....thats just not a solution.

Eh, deleting in batches is important but not THAT bad....and I have over 5k emails on my phone 😀
