Hi,

is it possbile to directly connect my iBook with my desktop PC, for example with an ethernet cable? I want to transfer files from my PC to the iBook. If not, are there any other ways of doing this?

Yes you can just connect them with ethernet - I'm not sure you even need a crossover cable. I think they just autonegotiate IP address and the like. You'll need to turn on sharing on the PC so the mac can get at your PC files. You can browse to you PC from the mac using 'Go to Server' in the finder menus....

Hmm, tried that, but it doesn't seem to work. The Mac can't find my PC.

Could be a problem with lack of IP address.
You may need to assign static IP addresses to both machines.
Assuming you are running OS X and you are adventures, there is a Rendezvous addon to Explorer for the PC.

Newer Macs will auto-negotiate the ethernet cable. Cross-over or regular cable doesn't matter.
