watching DVDs on TV

I am thinking of getting the display adapter that allows a connection to the TV. I want to use this to then watch DVD's from my mac on the TV (for 17" 1.25GHz iMac)

So my question is:1) is the picture quality good? and 2) if I connect the sound to my surround sound receiver will it have the surround sound properly multiplexed into the audio signal?

if anyone has done this, I'd love to hear about it before I buy the $20 cable!

picture quality has always been fine for me when i do this. couldn't tell you much about sound; i do this with non-region 1 DVDs, and the sound on those is sometimes weird to begin with. the surround-sound seems ok, but no promises.
