I've been looking at a bunch of guides to upgrading the AppleTV's hard drive and all seem to upgrade to 120GB, the model from Apple is 160GB. Is there a limit to the hard drive size in AppleTV or is it only limited by the hard drives available?

I've heard of people putting in a 500GB drive. I wouldn't touch mine though. Replacing the HDD requires removing the rubber bottom which can easily rip leaving you with a scarred :apple:TV. 160GB is just fine until the next major hardware revision.

The largest drive you can put in an ATV today is 250 gigs.

Hey! I started this thread! haha
That looks like a PATA drive to me and WOULD work without any need for additional cables etc etc.
