Hi,
My hardware/software:
My current setup:
The setup I want:
Problems:
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here that is stopping the connection sharing from working correctly and could they please give me very specific and informative instructions on how to fix this problem? Could it be some sort of subnet conflict as the router uses subnet 255.255.255.0 with the 192.168.2.x range of IP addresses and the modem ALSO uses subnet 255.255.255.0 BUT with the 10.0.0.x range of DHCP assigned IP addresses, this may not even apply as the router it being placed outside the modem's firewall via DMZplus mode and is not being assigned a 10.0.0.x address but our Internet IP.
I wrote this exhaustive list of information to make sure people completely understand my situation and can give very specific answers.
My hardware/software:
- Laptop running 10.4.11. IP address: 192.168.2.101, Router: 192.168.2.1, DNS Server (Primary): 192.168.2.1, DNS Server: (Secondary) None.
- Older type Playstation 2 with a Ethernet network adapter
- Belkin Wireless G Router. Router's DHCP is turned off but the Laptop's IP addresses are configured correctly. IP addresses follow the 192.168.2.x format (subnet 255.255.255.0) with the router being 192.168.2.1. Router has a firewall enabled and is equiped with UPnP port fowarding.
- Broadband modem.
My current setup:
- Broadband is connected via Ethernet to the Wireless G router.
- Wireless G router broadcasts WPA2-PSK AES encrypted 802.11g 2.4GHz band wireless internet to the laptop.
The setup I want:
- Broadband modem is connected via Ethernet to the Wireless G router.
- Wireless G router broadcasts WPA2-PSK AES encrypted 802.11g 2.4GHz band wireless internet to the laptop.
- Laptop connected via Ethernet to the Playstation 2
- Playstation 2's Netplay feature can function correctly, play multiplayer games etc.
Problems:
- Configuring the Playstation 2's Netplay to DHCP assigned IP and DNS servers causes a timeout error when the connection is tested using built-in software.
- When the network cord that was in the Playstation 2 is plugged into my Windows XP Pro SP2 based system the DHCP assignment occurs (IP: 192.168.2.x, Subnet: 255.255.255.0, Gateway: 192.168.2.1, DHCP Server: 192.168.2.1, DNS Server: 192.168.2.1, WINS Server: None) and web pages based on the PowerBook's webserver (http://192.168.2.101/) could be accessed (it stopped working once I disabled and re-enabled the connection in the Network Connections folder [on Windows]) but connecting to a website causes a timeout.
