Connecting macbook to satellite receiver, anyone know how

ive recently needed to connect my macbook to my satelite receiver. i bought a usb to 9 pin cable and tried to connect it, but for soem reason it doesnt respond.

do you guys have any suggestions

you need a converter box like the EYEtv (http://www.elgato.com/elgato.en.html)
