Connecting the Touch to my Element? Vol?

I connect my Touch to my Element's stereo using a cord that plugs into the AUX on the car, and the headphone jack on the Touch. When I'm listening to it, I set the volume on the Touch to almost all the way up, and then have to turn the volume on the E way up too.

Is this normal? Is there a better way/cord to connect it with? Thru the dock plug maybe?
