its my 2nd day on my macbook i just wondered do i need to do any thing such as defragment

i heard yo should repair permission after each program install is this correct as i have not done this yet

if i do could you link me to the guide

1.) Defragmenting is something that doesn't really need to be done, especially after 2 days.

2.) Repairing permissions open up Disk Utility in the Utilities folder then select the drive in the list on the left and press "Repair Permissions" . Under Leopard this is slightly broken/scares people. It will probably say Estimated time remaining 1 minute for a couple of minutes and then spew out

Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

But this is normal for Leopard at this stage, see apple KB article here.

BTW I rarely repair permissions at all and I install a lot of applications

You as a rule dont need to defrag your drive its a Mac

I normally repair permissions after a app install but am not fully sure its
necessary

OS X defragments files on the fly, so it's not necessary to do so manually.

Permission repair is certainly not required after installing new software. It's generally a good idea after a major system update, but isn't something you need to get into the habit of doing - just every once in a while is sufficient.

No defragging; it does it for you. And permission repairs... they're really not that important. I'm moving files around willy nilly and never get any complaints. Do do it every month or so, though. Welcome! Oh, and no, you don't need virus protection, either.

also i put dvd in my macbook it said it was wronng region but wouldnt allow me to change it even though it stated 4 changes left :|

xcode, this is not on the default install so you wil have to pop your install disc (1) in and choose optional install and then go to xcode tools.

You may want to check out Apple Developer Pages (can sign up for a free account). They have lots of info on there as well as updates to xcode from time to time.
