I just got my first mac (Macbook Pro base 1999$) yesterday, and am having a little difficulty making the transition. If you could answer any of the following questions that would be great thanks

-I have a Sanyo VPC- HD1A video camera, what do i need to and how do I import video onto Imovie with it?

-My camera (Samsung NV11) software CD is for windows so i can't install it, how could I upload pictures/ AVI files onto my mac?

-Is there a reason why my USB thumb drive doesnt work? (Cruzer Micro 1gb)

- EDIT: how do you record a video using the integrated webcam

thank you again

@ 1 and 2 Plug it in, it should just work.

@ 3 I don't know, it should, that is puzzling, try a different USB port.

when you said "doesn't work", did you mean OSX would not recognize the USB flash drive at all?

EDIT: how do you record a video using the integrated webcam

Open Photo Booth and to the left of the camera icon, choose the third icon, it looks like a video tape and click the center button again to start the video capture.
I'm sure the Help in Photo Booth is a lot clearer ;)

does it appear in the system profiler?

Go to the apple logo in the top left hand corner, select about this mac and then more info.

Well it's supposed to appear on your desktop. Any chance that is is password protected?

it doesnt appear but it is one of those password protected ones, you think that's the reason why? that function isn't compatible

Looking at SanDisk's website (http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1919)-SDCZ6-1024-A10-SanDisk_Cruzer_Micro_1GB_Black.asp) the password software isn't Mac compatible.

Have you tried reformatting your thumb drive using Disk Utility (in /Applications/utilities)?

If you are only using the drive on your Mac, use HFS+ for the file system. if you want to use on a PC too, use FAT.

Obviously don't format it if there is anything on there you need...

Maybe there is something about the way the drive was setup that makes it not want to work on your mac...

No idea concerning the Cruzer, unless of course the format isn't compatible. Concrlerning recording with iSight, you can select it as an input from within iMovie right on the same button where you would normally select your video camera. There should be a 'record from iSight' option.
