I need to install a program that is OS 9 only but whenever I try running to installed, I get a Classic dialogue box saying "This installer requires Virtual Memory, which this computer does not have". Is there any way to get around this or to "enable" VM under the Classic environment?

Classic IS running VM. What is the program? Can you install it on another machine running OS 9 then pull the parts and install them manually?

It's Corel Print Office 2000.

I am afraid to ask why you are using that ummm software on a mac??

Please don't tell me your printer requires it!

Seriously,
Just install it on a OS 9 Mac and drag/drop the Application folder to the Classic Applications folder on your OS X machine. There can't possibly be any extensions for this can there??

If so, just move them. The installer engine for this must App be crap.

I'm using that software on a Mac because that's the software I have to work with. I just got a new PowerBook and don't have anymore money to buy a graphics program to make cards and stuff with. As far as using another Mac, first, I would need access to another OS 9 Mac to use and then transfer it to another Mac, where I wouldn't know how I would transfer something that big with.

OK.

What is the installation program? is it the Apple installer, Stuffit???

You need to find a way to rip the installer open so you can get at the files and extract them manually.

Wait. Try this first:
Go into systemprefs, then the Classic pane, click on the Advanced tab and choose Extensions Off, launch Classic then insert the Corel CD and try to install. maybe Classic has an extension conflict with the installer. If that works, quit Classic and restart it with extensions ON and see if the program works.

Otherwise, tell me what the Installer program is.

The installer is Vise and I have the extensions off already by default.

Try restarting Classic w/ Apple extensions

I don't know how to get into VISE files. there is a GREAT utility that opens up Apple TOMES called tomeviewer, but it won't work here.

try emailing Mindvision, they make VISE:

You might as well just copy/paste this thread to them.

Well thanks for your continued support, I just decided to screw it and did a handmade card for my girlfriend (today is our 1 year anniversary) I hope she likes stick figures, because that's what she's getting...heh.
