i'm assuming that amount of page-outs means i need more ram? i ordered 4gb from OWC, which would bring me up to 6gb. Do you think that will be enough? i only use aperture and photoshop.

I take it you haven't rebooted in a while...

The golden rule for RAM is:

Get as much as you can afford.
Another 4GB won't hurt at all, it should help a lot.

i wouldnt say you necessarily need more ram as thats a pretty good ratio. i mean its 144:5 about. I would reccomend getting new ram when the ratio is more like 10:1, unless you just want to get more now whcih never hurts, just saying may not be necessary

okay so that amount of pageouts isnt bad? i did a search and most of the stuff that i got back was saying that having ANY amount of page-outs means you need more ram. which definitely confused me.

and you're right, i havent rebooted in about a day and a half.

it's mainly the ratio of ins to outs rather than the total number of either that's the concern.

see this thread of mine from a few days ago:

Are you beachballing at all? If not I'd not be too worried. I don't know about Aperture, but for Photoshop 6gb should be more then enough – I read that it can only use address the first 4gb and the remainder it uses for scratch disk.
