Does anyone else suffer from really slow internet performance using wifi on the touch? I borrow the other half's touch and used it on various networks and it just seems unusable compared with using a laptop. i was gonna buy the touch just because of wifi but now I'm considering the classic.

bear on mind that it doesn't have anything like the processor or memory of a laptop. Given those limitations, it's not that bad. It's certainly quicker than mobile phones and I'd say that it's quicker than using dialup
Thanks to burglars it's been my sole access to the Internet for a week or so and while I'm looking forward to having a proper Mac again, I've been amazed by how usable the Touch has been.
